A BASIC TUTORIAL ON WAYS

TO SYSTEMATICALLY
COLLECT DATA

A Research Web Quest

For Senior High School Students

DEVELOPED BY:
DANIELLA ANNE M. PINOTE, LPT

Are you ready to take on a tutorial

session with me?

Then, let’s go and let’s try to understand

ways to systematically collect data!
INTRODUCTION
Don’t fall into the trap which many beginning (and
experienced) researchers do in thinking that quantitative
research is ‘better’ than qualitative research. Neither is better
than the other – they are just different and both have their
strengths and weaknesses. What you will find, however, is that
your instincts probably lean you towards one rather than the
other. Listen to these instincts as you will find it more productive
to conduct the type of research with which you will feel
comfortable, especially if you’re to keep your motivation levels
high. Also, be aware of the fact that your tutor or boss might
prefer one type of research over the other. If this is the case, you
might have a harder time justifying your chosen methodology, if
it goes against their preferences.

Today you will be taking a tutorial session on the different

ways to systematically collect data and eventually create a draft
for your Research Methodology. By taking this tutorial seriously,
you will be able to finalize your method and the things you need
to do to start data collection and analysis.
TASK
Today will be an exciting activity for you, for you are about to
take into a tutorial session on the different ways on how to collect
data. I would like you to wear your laboratory gowns and researchers
goggles for you to be able to understand different quantitative
research designs and see the complexity and beauty of research.

In addition to this online tutorial, your task for today is even

more exciting for you are going to be an expert research planner. You
are going to plan out your methods and be able to create a draft of
your research proposal particularly be able to finish chapter 3 of your
research paper. With this you will be involving yourself in our e-
classroom for the submission of your outputs. Remember to apply the
learnings that you gain from the online tutorial.

The task shall be accomplished by group. Each group should

consist of five (5) members.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN LEARNING!

PROCESS
START OF ONLINE TUTORIAL SESSION

1. In your group (predetermined by the teacher), let us do a “TIP AND FACT FINDING
ACTIVITY”. Read and analyze different quantitative research design, sampling and sampling
procedures, data collection procedure and data analysis. Click the link below to officially start
your online tutorial.
Note: Read the link in its proper order.

PROCESS
3. Yehey! You are almost done with this tutorial. This time let us try to apply what we learned
and create our own RESEARCH METHODOLOGY. Let’s get this tutorial even more exciting by
doing this activity. Note: Proper sequence of the different parts should be taken into
consideration.
The Rubrics in creating your Chapter 3: Research Methodology is below:

4. In rendering your output follow the format given to you by the teacher/facilitator.
