Course Description:

This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy
skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students
will develop their understanding of musical conventions, practices, and terminology and apply the elements of music in a range of activities. They
will also explore the function of music in society with reference to the self, communities, and cultures.

General Instructional Objectives:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of music theory with respect to concepts of notation and the elements and other components of music, and use
appropriate terminology relating to them.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the history of some musical forms and of characteristics of types of music from around the world.
3. Apply the stages of the creative process when performing notated and/or improvised music and composing and/or arranging music.
4. Apply elements of music when performing notated and improvised music and composing and/or arranging music.
5. Use a variety of techniques and technological tools when performing music and composing and/or arranging music.
6. Use the critical analysis process when responding to, analysing, reflecting on, and interpreting music.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of how traditional, commercial, and art music reflect the society in which they were created and how they have
affected communities or cultures.
8. Demonstrate an understanding of how performing, creating, and critically analysing music has affected their skills and personal development
9. Identify and describe various opportunities for continued engagement in music.

Teaching Learning Processes:

Class Policy:
1. Attendance is counted starting from the first day of class.
2. A minimum of 90% of attendance is required. Excessive unexcused absences will harm your final grade. If a student misses a class for any
reasons, it is her/his responsibility to find out what was covered in that class.
3. If a student comes into class 5 minutes after the start of the class, s/he will be counted ‘absent’.
4. Students should take part actively in the F2F and online discussions , if any.
5. No request for a postponed test will be allowed unless the student is hospitalized and can submit an approved medical certificate.
6. Plagiarism is illegal. Any plagiarized papers/tests are considered ‘fail’.
7. Mobile phones should be turned off at all times during class.
8. All students should participate actively in class.
