What is DOTA 2?

DOTA 2, also known as “Defense of the Ancients”, is the game from the genre of MOBA or
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. There are many games of this time around these days,
including one of the most popular variants LOL, also known as “League of Legends”.

DOTA 2 is a team-fight oriented strategic game with the highest prize pool among all of
ESPORTS Games. The aim of DOTA 2 is simple; there are two teams each with five heroes,
each hero is controlled by a single player. Each team has a base and in that base they have an
ancient. Your objective is to destroy the enemy base’s ancient.

OKAY… maybe it’s not that simple.

Heroes in DOTA 2:
There are a lot of heroes in DOTA 2, 117 to be exact; they are divided into 3 groups, Strength,
Agility and Intelligence. These heroes are also divided according to their attack types, Melee and
Ranged.

Strength heroes have high HP or health, Agility heroes have high speed and damage and
Intelligence heroes have high magical damage. However, there are some exceptions. Every hero
has a certain role in the game and every team pick hero according to their role to win the match.

Map of DOTA 2:

Both teams, Radiant and Dire, start the game from opposite ends of the map. Radiant from the
bottom left corner and Dire from the top right corner. Heroes of every team start from their
base’s fountain. The fountain has the ability to regenerate the hero’s health and mana, when they
are near their own team’s fountain. The heroes are not invincible in their fountain and if an
enemy hero comes near your fountain, the fountain has the ability to attack the enemy hero with
very high attack speed and damage.

Each fountain also has a base shop from which you can buy items to support your team and
strengthen your own hero. There are two side shops; one is located in the bottom right corner in
the radiant territory and one is in the top left corner in the dire territory. There are also two secret
shops; one is in the top side jungle in the radiant territory and one is in the bottom side jungle in
the radiant territory.

Base Shops are used to buy and make items from early game to mid game to late game. Side
Shops are used to buy items when you are in lane and it saves the time of your hero to wait for
the courier to deliver you the items. Secret Shops are used to buy special items that are not
available in base and side shops and which are useful in mid to late game.

Both teams have an Ancient in the center of their base; you win the game when you destroy the
enemy’s ancient. Both bases are connected by three lanes. Each lane has three towers in each
lane; these towers are progressively harder as you get closer and closer to the enemy’s base. Two
of these three towers are in lane and one tower is at the starting of the base. The Ancient is
protected two more towers which can only be attacked after you have destroyed any one of the
towers of the base and The Ancient can only be attacked when the two guarding towers of the
Ancient are destroyed.

The team which destroys the enemy’s ancient first WINS.
