DIODE V-I Characteristic Curve
Load line analysis
Loadline analysis – finding the I-V levels that will satisfy both the
diode and network characteristics.
Applying KVL;
VD = 0V; ID = 0A;
Load line analysis
EXAMPLE 1
For the series diode configuration below, employing the diode
characteristics given, determine: (a) VDQ and IDQ , (b) VR (c) RD
Series Configuration
For the analysis to follow it is assumed that:
forward resistance of the diode is usually so small compared to
the other series elements of the network that it can be ignored
a diode is in the “on” state if the current established by the
applied sources is such that its direction matches that of the
arrow in the diode symbol, and VD = 0.7V

Sinusoidal Inputs

Clipped-OFF!!!
Clippers and Clampers
Series Clippers - diode is in series with the source
Clippers and Clampers
Series Clippers- diode is in series with the source
Clippers and Clampers
Parallel Clippers- diode is in parallel with the source
Clippers and Clampers
Parallel Clippers- diode is in parallel with the source
Clippers and Clampers
Parallel Clippers- diode is in parallel with the source
Clippers and Clampers
Clampers - constructed of a diode, a resistor, and a capacitor that
shifts a waveform to a different dc level without changing the
appearance of the applied signal.
