What is the value of being a person of good character?

As a sophomore in high school, I have not done many things quite yet to fill out

on the paper I was given, but that does not mean I do not value my own character.

Having value in your character means having ethical values, and good character even

when no one is watching. Having good character when no one is there to see your

actions and praise you for them, you do it because it makes you feel accomplished as

an individual. There are core ethical values that demonstrate the best character within

a person, and these are the most significant.

Responsibility; the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of

having control over someone. With responsibility also comes honesty and respect.

When you are responsible you are seen as a role model and an influencer to others.

Without responsibility you cannot gain respect from others and have values of good

character. If you have a job or a duty to do, you do it knowing that you will gain respect

and good character. If you do not get the job done you show immaturity which will

make you lose respect from others and yourself.

One example of having responsibility is taking honors courses in school. Taking

these classes pushes a student to do their best and get the highest education possible.

I have taken multiple honors classes as a freshman and also this year as a sophomore.
Taking these classes requires immense responsibility in school and outside of school.

Having multiple essays to write weekly requires time management, which is a

responsibility. I work on my essays in school with the time I am given and I also use

time after school to perfect those essays and turn them in before the due date. If I did

not have responsibility I would fail my honors classes and have a low GPA.

Another example of responsibility is being a student athlete doing multiple sports.

Students balancing sports and school takes responsibility because neglecting the

responsibilities will result in being removed from the team and failing classes. I am a

student athlete who does honors classes and also sports. Last year I played JV

volleyball and I was on the varsity softball team while also balancing and making time

for school assignments. I also did the school musical during the first half of the softball

season so I was balancing school, sports, and the musical. This took great

responsibility to thrive in more than one activity that needed time in school and out of

school.

As far as values of good character go, I hold myself to the highest standard

possible. I want to be the best person I can be, as a leader and influencer to others.

Overall, having ethical values and moral principles to go by makes you a person of good

character. Trying your hardest to thrive upon those morals and principals gives you

value in your good character. I will continue to hold myself to a high standard the rest of

my high school career, and continue to do so when I leave here.
