Situation Analysis / Needs Assessment
Social Issue/s Needs Assessment
1.Poverty As we can see in the video,
many factors contribute to
poverty. It entails more than the
lack of income and productive
resources to ensure sustainable
livelihoods. Most, if not all, of
them such as low-quality
education, lack of adequate food
and healthcare, and geographic
location. Put simply, many
people live in poverty primarily
due to low earning capacity of
the poor and to their limited
access to regular and
productive jobs. These people
experienced a condition of
being slave in which they
unable to do anything according
to his/her wish. It has many
faces which changes according
to the person, place and time. It
can be described in many ways
a person feels it or live it.
Reducing poverty requires a
focus both on what government
needs to do and on what
individuals need to do. We need
a combination of responsible
policies and responsible
behavior.

Poverty represents poor quality
of life, illiteracy, malnutrition,
lack of basic needs, low human
and resource development.
However, the universal
destination of goods requires
that the poor, the marginalized
and in all cases those whose
living conditions interfere with
their proper growth should be
the focus of particular concern.
To this end, the preferential
option for the poor should be
reaffirmed in all its force. It
affects the life of each Christian
in as much as he or she seeks to
imitate the life of Christ, but it
applies equally to our social
responsibilities and hence to
our manner of living. As the
United States Catholic Bishops
said: “Distributive
justice requires that the
allocation of income, wealth,
and power in society be
evaluated in light of its effects
on persons whose basic
material needs are unmet.”

A key way for the poor people to
escape poverty is to earn more to
support the financial needs of their
family. Solution for poverty requires a
focus both on what government
needs to do and on what individuals
need to do. We need a combination of
responsible policies and responsible
behavior.
1.The people affected need
to identify the issues. It is more
effective when issues and problems
are identified by the people. They
then begin to gain self-confidence and
acquire capabilities in working
together on simple issues and
problems. This means that their
initial efforts and experience can be
used towards addressing more
complex problems and issues. It is in
identifying and acting on their initial
simple issues or problems that the
affected people gain their self-
confidence and capability to identify
other issues or problems which need
to be addressed.
2. The people directly affected by
the problems or issues of
poverty in the community have to
be actively and authentically
participating in the efforts to fight
poverty. This means that the affected
people themselves will be the major
participants of the intervention to
fight poverty. Not only the
government or formal leaders need to
be consulted, but also the affected
themselves. Their worldview and
situation should be taken into
consideration and through facilitation
they become part of the process of
addressing and resolving their
problems.

2.Unemployment unemployment affects the
person’s social life very badly in
many ways. They failed to get
sufficient income so they cannot
purchase necessary things and
failed to maintain the minimum
standard of living such as
consumption and nutrition
required for existence. It is
highly complicated and
multidisciplinary that both
affects more than the person
who was without a job, it can go
as far as effecting the family and
the income of the family. Living
without a solid income is a very
difficult way to live but
unfortunately it is an everyday
normality. Unemployment is not
only the problem of a person
however it is a national
problem. It must be solved on
urgent basis by implementing
some effective solutions.
Eradication of this problem can
be done effectively by the unite
effort of each and every person.

The Catholic tradition teaches
that human dignity can be
protected and a healthy
community can be achieved
only if human rights are
protected and responsibilities
are met. Therefore, every
person has a fundamental right
to life and a right to those
things required for human
necessities. Corresponding to
these rights are duties and
responsibilities to their families
in order to provide their
financial needs and has the
right to bodily integrity and to
the means necessary for the
proper development of life,
particularly food, clothing,
shelter, medical care, rest and
finally, the necessary social
services. In human society one
man's natural right gives rise to
a corresponding duty in other
men; the duty, that is, of
recognizing and respecting that
right.
1.A decent job that fits with their
competences. The job that they will
acquire must be suitable of their
skills so that they can able to perform
appropriately. Making employment
opportunities available is just as
important as increasing income and
access to basic needs. For the poor,
labor is often the only asset they can
use to improve their well-being.
Hence the creation of productive
employment opportunities is
essential for achieving poverty
reduction and sustainable economic
and social development.
2. Create an organized group
within the community to help
many people rather than staying at
home. It is more effective to facilitate
collective and organized actions to
help strengthen and empower people
who are unemployed. This means
that it is not enough to provide
assistance to individually affected
persons alone but through a
collective organization each
individual is developed and steps are
taken to address their problems and
other problems in the future.

Personal Insight Gained

1. In all parts of the world, there are people who are having a hard to cope up in making a living due the never-
ending financial needs and unaffordable necessities. However, being poor is not a hindrance to be happy and enjoy
life. We should strengthen our faith and be thankful for the life that he has given us. As I realized, no matter how life
can be so busy and distracting we should not overlook those in need. Oftentimes, we can be can be so caught up in
ourselves that we neglect to be helpful to others. However, there are steps, a small step, come great steps, and with
these great steps each and every one of us can help others less fortunate than ourselves, understand the greater
good in life.
