INSPIRATIONAL WORDS

"Art is a line around

your thoughts."
GUSTAV KLIMT
NOLI ME TANGERE
(1984)
LEONARDO CRUZ

Gallery V of the National Museum is dedicated

to artworks inspired by Jose Rizal. Amidst all
the portraits done by many prominent artists,
this mesmerizing piece by Leonardo Cruz
combines scenes from one of the hero’s most
important literary works, Noli Me Tangere.
Cruz was so inspired by the novel that he
created a series of 28 paintings depicting
scenes from the book.
SPOLIARIUM (1884)
JUAN LUNA
Largest painting in the Philippines
The Latin word Spoliariumrefers to the
basement of the Colosseum in Rome,
where dying gladiators were stripped
of their garments and weapons after
battle and left to take their last
breath.
PARISIAN
LIFE
JUAN LUNA
also known as Interior d’Un
Caféor "Inside a Café", even titled in
some books as "The Maid" and"Un
Coquette" or literally someone who is
one step lower than prostitute painted
by Juan Luna. He is known to use
prostitutes as models in his painting
sessions for a very obvious reason -
they're paid cheap.
The Legislative Building was
said to be the grandest and
most impressive structure of
all public buildings
constructed during the
American occupation.
From here, he sketched vivid
images of the city’s
destruction which he managed
to see from his window and
RUINS OF THE LEGISLATIVE
rooftop.
BUILDING BY FERNANDO
AMORSOLO (1945)
It depicts the history and
development of Philippine medicine
over the centuries. Francisco was a
muralist painter, known for his
historical works, and one of the first
artists known to veer way from
Amorsolo’s romanticism of Philippine
subject matter.
