336 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. “Therefore stay
awake.” (Matthew 24:22). Jesus reminds us all to “stay awake” because we “do not know on
which day your Lord will come.” Jesus is not suggesting that we cower in fear, rather, to live
life with courage and faith. A Eucharistic Holy Hour? How better a way to live a life of
courage and faith, daily moments with God. Call Joie at 330-745-6852 for your hour of courage and
faith. God’s blessings to Greg Beatty for his commitment to the Tuesday 4-5am vacant hour.
We currently have the following vacant hours: Monday 3-4pm, Tuesday 9-10pm, Friday 10-11am
and 11am-12pm, Monday midnight-1, Wednesday 2-3am and Friday 2-3am.

A Barberton Area Community Ministry item for the month of October is Cereal. All donations
can be placed in the bench in front of the giving tree in the vestibule of the church. Donations
are picked up on Monday mornings. Thank you again for all your support in helping us serve
our brother’s and sister’s in need.

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s gospel parable the rich man wanted to warn his brothers so they could
avoid his fate. Evidently, his whole family ignored the poor! If you were the rich man
and could warn your family, what would you tell them? Better yet – invite them to
practice the works of mercy to those in need.

Today, we are taking up the collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Your
support helps the CCC connect people to Christ, in the United States and around the world, through
the internet, television, radio, and print media. Half the funds we collect remain here in the
Cleveland Diocese to support local efforts. Be a part of this campaign to spread the Gospel message.
Support the collection today! To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/ccc.

Pastor’s Formed Pick of the Week: “Saint Pedro Poveda: Priest, Educator & Martyr”

“This biographical drama tells the true story of Pedro Poveda (1874-1936), a
tenacious and innovative priest who opened new paths in education and pioneered the
rights of women in the early twentieth century. A victim of intolerance, he was
murdered at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. In 1974, he was awarded the title
of “Educator & Humanist” by UNESCO and was canonized a saint by Pope John Paul
II in 2003.
Poveda’s success in educating and promoting poor illiterate children living in
the Caves of Guadix in Southern Spain received staunch opposition. He had to move
to Covadonga, in the Northern Mountains. There, with the help of young women, he
started a new Christian movement focused on education opportunities for women,
which became the Teresian Association that continues his work today. For its
development and growth, he relied on young Pepita Segovia, one of the first women of
her time to receive a university degree in education.
Poveda continued his work in spite of the social and political turmoil that
intensified in the beginning of the thirties and escalated into a civil war. Caught in the
middle of conflict, Poveda, a man of peace and dialogue, gave his life for his faith,
leaving behind a legacy of light and hope.”

As we continue to grow in our faith, it is important that we do our best to participate in the life
of the Church, most especially in her worship. For our young people one opportunity is to

through 8th grade. Responsibilities of our servers involve Sunday Mass, School Mass and an
occasional Wedding. We have a great group of servers that add so much to our liturgy. Please
consider becoming an Altar Server. There will be two practices; you only need to attend one:
Saturday, October 12, 2019 beginning at 10am in the Church and Tuesday, October 15 beginning
at 3:00pm in the Church. Registration forms can be found on the website.
For those preparing to have a child baptized, one requirement is that the parents attend a Pre-Baptism
