PRESS RELEASE

On Monday, September 23, 2019 at approximately 11:56 p.m., Officers were dispatched to 723 Reyes Street in
the City of Uvalde, Texas in reference to a male subject that made entry into the residence while the complainant
was asleep.

Upon officer’s arrival, they made contact with Maria De La Luz Fernandez who told officers that a male subject
made entry into her residence through a bathroom window. Fernandez said that she was woken up, due to the
male subject knocking over a fan in her bedroom. Mrs. Fernandez said that when she woke up, she noticed a
person standing over her, holding a serrated knife. Mrs. Fernandez said the subject was wearing a grey hoodie, a
mask, and shorts. Mrs. Fernandez also told officers that the subject appeared to be slender and was approximately
5’4” in height.

Mrs. Fernandez said that the subject told her in Spanish “te quiero hacer el amor” and “te voy a violar” meaning
I’m going to make love to you and I’m going to violate you. Mrs. Fernandez said that she pushed the subject
away from her and received a small laceration to her finger. Mrs. Fernandez said the subject exited her residence
using the front door and ran west bound.

Officers and detectives observed the screen to the front door was cut, and according to Mrs. Fernandez, the screen
had not been damaged before. Officer did observe the window to the bathroom to be unsecure and the screen to
the window was on the ground.

A search of the immediate area was conducted by other officers and deputies, but no one was located. Detectives
are still actively working on this case.
