This guide is limited only to the pronunciation as used in the book. Other pronunciation
variants that were not discussed in the book were also not included here.
Vowels Only short-vowel sounds are tackled, which is marked with a breve (˘ ) on top
of the vowel letters, for instance:
ă as in ark, dad
ĕas in egg, pet
ĭ as in ink, big
ŏ as in off, moss
ŭ as in up, umbrella
k - has only one sound which is identical to that of hard c as in kit, elk
