Improvements for Version 0783/D

1 7 Improvements
Content 1) Improvement of check process of microcode update
This microcode does not execute the microcode update process for the second controller, if the
microcode has detected an incomplete microcode update for the first controller. Storage Navigator
Modular displays the new error message.
2) Improvement of SENC block process
Microcode does not collect unnecessary SENC log to switch over backend path quickly, when code
detects SENC failure which causes time-out error of SATA HDD and executes SENC block.
3) Improvement of the detection of the SENC failure
Code blocks the SENC which has detected the SATA disk failure for two or more SATA HDD at the
same time, because it seems very possible that the SENC failure causes this failure condition.
When an SENC had detected the SATA disk failure for two or more SATA HDD, previous
microcode blocks all of the SATA HDD.
4) Improvement of the SENC firmware error recovery
Code resets SENC and tries to recover SENC, when SENC firmware hung and SENC block
5) Improvement of the subsystem boot-up process
Subsystem can now boot up when the AL_PA error of a HDD has occurred, because this microcode
blocks the HDD of the AL_PA error in the power-on sequence of subsystem
6) New parameter under MENU “Others” in maintenance mode
“Subsystem boots up after HDD is removed during subsystem power-off” Subsystem can boot up
after the failed HDD has been removed offline, if above parameter has been set to “Enable” (default:
“Disable (normal boot-up)”), when the subsystem cannot boot up due to the HDD failure.

1 Controller blockade may occur on new inserted controller

Phenomena The controller blockade occurs with the following WEB information message.
The controller blockade occurs again with the same WEB information message in the
new inserted controller after the controller replacement, because the management
information of True Copy Extended Distance has become invalid. WEB information
message: “H50G00 BRG PCI0 the PCI master generated master abort”

Conditions of Occurrence When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon may occur.
(a) 1 bit error (ECC correctable) occurs in the local memory (CS/DS) of a controller
(b) 2 bit error (ECC uncorrectable) occurs in same local memory (CS/DS) immediately
after the failure of (a). (The microcode may update the management information in the
cache memory by using an error value of ECC uncorrectable error.)

2 WEB message “H307xy DCTL CACHE ECC uncorrectable error”

Phenomena The WEB information message “H307xy DCTL CACHE ECC uncorrectable error” is
illegally displayed and the cache memory replacement is illegally requested even
though the cache memory failure does not occur, when the CUDG error has occurred
during the power-on of subsystem.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon occurs.
(a) the power-on of subsystem or a controller replacement
(b) The microcode which has loaded from the system disk of subsystem (not the flash
memory of a controller) detects a CUDG error during the process of (a).
Cause Due to the microcode bug in the controller blockade process in the CUDG error

3 The blockade of the spare disk drive may occur

Phenomena Blockade of spare disk drive replaced before occurs with the following WEB
information message in the power-on of subsystem after the electrical power outage.
WEB information message: "IY03 DFPC error detect(Unit-x, HDU-y) [WWN NG]"

Conditions of Occurrence When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon occur
(a) An spare disk drive is replaced
(b) The subsystem configuration information is not updated to the system disk of
subsystem after the replacement of (a). (For example, LU creation, system parameter
setting and subsystem shutdown is not executed.)
(c) The electrical power outage occurs under the condition of (b), and then the power-
on of subsystem is executed

4 An HDD blockade may occur over and over again in the same HDD
Phenomena HDD blockade with WEB information message"I6DY00 Drive Response Diag NG".
This HDD blockade occurs again in the same HDD with the same WEB information
message after the HDD replacement.
Severity Medium
Conditions of Occurrence When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon may occur.
(a) Dual controller
(b) RAID5 which is composed of a few HDD (For example, 2D+1P of RAID5)
(There are a few HDD between which the Drive Response Diag function compares the
response performance.)
(c) LU of LU ownership of controller#0 and the LU of LU ownership of controller#1
are created in the RAID group of (b). (Both controllers access the each HDD of (b).)
(d) High-load sequential I/O issued to HDD from the controller, and low-load random
I/Os continues to be issued to the same HDD from the other controller.
(For example, the high-load sequential I/Os is "re-sync of Shadow Image".)
(e) The I/O loads of (4) continue more than 10 minutes.
