Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral was teased in the end of the 2015 historical film Heneral Luna ,

which tells us the life of Heneral Antonio Luna during the Philippine-American War. Goyo : Ang

Batang Heneral is a 2018 Philippine Historical film starring Paulo Avelino as Gregorio “goyo” Del

Pilar, who is a very young general during the Philippine – American War who died at the Battle of

Tirad Pass that was based on true historical event. The movie was under the production of TBA

Studios (tuko film productions, buchi boy Entertainment and Artikulo Uno Productions) who made

a name in the filming industry for producing the award-winning Heneral Luna. Artikulo Uno

Productions was named after a decree issued by the real General Antiono Luna. It is directed

by Jerrold Tarog who also directed the historical movie Heneral luna who currently holds the

highest grossing film in the Philippines. TBA Studios release a short film titled Angelito which

bridges the gap between the movie Heneral Luna and Goyo: ang batang heneral. This short film

follows the story of Bernal brothers two days after General Antonio Luna was assassinated. The

scope of this historical movie review is for academic purposes only and to provide the reader a

clear understanding on the historical aspects that will be discussed throughout the review.

After the Assassination of General Luna, the gathering of Luna’s remaining soldiers to aid

Pres. Aguinaldo and eliminating his remaining loyal servants was assigned to General Gregorio

“Goyo ” Del Pilar, a young, arrogant, handsome general and the favorite of President Emilio

Aguinaldo. During a five-month break from combat, Goyo and his troops, this includes his older

brother Julian and his friend Vicente Enriquez, capture Angel Bernal, the younger brother of

Luna's loyal comrades, Manuel and José. Soon they infiltrate where Manuel is hiding and torture

him into joining Goyo's unit. When Manuel wont budge, they kill him. Meanwhile, Joven Hernando,

who now works as an assistant for his uncle, but is assigned to be del Pilar's photographer due

to his uncle’s American clients.

General Jose Alejandrino, Luna’s meets with Apolinario, who stepped down from his position after

the death of Luna. Mabini Ask Alejandrino to know the truth behind Luna's death. Meanwhile,
Goyo and Pres. Aguinaldo meet in Bulacan and promotes him to Major-General of Pangasinan.

Meanwhile Goyo begins to court Remedios, the beautiful and hard to get daughter of Don

Mariano. During his time, Aguinaldo meets Mabini and offers him to return with the position of

Chief Justice, but Mabini refuse. Gen. Alejandrino travels to Manila to negotiate with 2 American

Generals named Elwell Otis and Arthur McArthur Jr, who reject his proposal. Soon after, the

conflict continues and the Filipinos are caught off-guard by American’s second attack. As soon

as the news spread to Aguinaldo , he orders the march of the Army to meet with Gen. Manuel

Tino to strengthen their force. However, Before Aguinaldo got to meet Gen. Tinio, Tinio was

already defeated by the Americans, forcing Aguinaldo to retreat further north. The March with the

pressure of escorting Aguinaldo's family, American encounters and feud between soldiers of

Luna's remaining soldiers which led Goyo to unwillingly ignore an American attack who caught

up with them that wipes out their rearguards and captures Aguinaldo's mother and son. When the

group arrived at Mt. Tirad Goyo came up with a plan to delay the American forces and give

Aguinaldo some time to escape. Goyo gathers men who is willing to join him with the help of Lt.

Garcia, Gen. Luna’s former sharpshooter and ilocano’s soldiers they build trenches along the

mountain. In the Morning the Americans who are at the foot of the mountain tried to charge all the

way up but initially failed due to their strong defense . However, a native filipino tipped the

Americans about an alternative route around the mountains which leads them appearing behind

the trenches, this results to storm their defense. Goyo who is motivated by his visions, tries to

finish the fight, but when he ignores the warning of his fellow soldier he was shot and killed by an

American soldier. As a result, his remaining army retreated and quickly surrender, Joven and Kiko

, who is Lt. Garcia’s son are fleeing from the fight but Joven Fell down in a cliff while they

encounter a American soldier. After the fight, the americans strip Goyo’s uniform and his personal

stuff and bury him at Mt. Tirad. In 1901, Aguinaldo was captured by the americans and is the end

of war . Mabini is also captured by the americans and was exiled to Guam. Remedios receives a

letter from Goyo which she narrates at the end of the film.
According to
