HISTORY CORNER
SHEFFIELD & HALLAMSHIRE Kiveton have a mixed history in League Cup competitions, having first entered such a
competition while members of the Holbrook & District League in the 1930s. After losing in
COUNTY SENIOR LEAGUE the League Cup final of 1936, Park went one better a year later by lifting the silverware by
beating Mosborough Trinity in a replayed final on the old Holbrook ground.
DIVISION 1 TABLE
The next League Cup the club entered was the one run by the Yorkshire League, which
Park had entered in 1949. Sadly, the Kiveton lads found the going far too tough in the
county-wide competition and returned to local football after just two years, during which
time they had made two early cup exits.
After plying their trade in the Worksop & District League (which didn’t run a cup
competition) throughout the 1950s, Park joined the East Derbyshire League (which did).
Kiveton’s record in the EDL was phenomenal, winning over a dozen trophies in just four
years. Three of them had been in the East Derbyshire League Cup, a competition that Park
won in three successive seasons from 1960/61 to 1962/63. In the first two finals they beat
Eckington Miners Welfare, and in the last they won 4-0 against rivals Waleswood Welfare
at Swallownest.
1963 saw the club re-enter the Yorkshire League, a competition they were now far better
equipped to play in. Kiveton remained league members for 19 years, and although they
never managed to win the League Cup, or even get to the final, they did feature in two
semi-finals, being beaten by Emley in both – in 1979 and 1981.
WEEKEND RESULTS When the Yorkshire League merged with the Midland League to form the Northern
Ardsley Athletico 1-0 Sheffield Medics Counties East League in 1982, Kiveton were founder members. Their record in the NCEL
Sheffield Union 1-2 KIVETON PARK Cup read for pretty dismal reading throughout most of the 80s, until they managed to
United Worksop 3-3 Denaby Main reach the semi-finals in 1990. Having beaten Brodsworth MW, Yorkshire Amateur, Brigg
Wombwell Main development 3-4 Handsworth reserves Town and Sheffield FC to get there, Park would have fancied their chances when
Wombwell Town 1-1 AFC Dronfield welcoming Ossett Town to Hard Lane for the last-four tie, but the visitors ran out 2-0
winners to dent Kiveton’s chances of appearing in the final at North Ferriby.
TODAY’S FIXTURES
Park left the NCEL in 1991, joining the Central Midlands League, and aside from a semi-

final appearance in 1994 (losing to Oakham United at Glapwell), there wasn’t much to
Handsworth reserves vs Wombwell Town (League Cup)
shout about on the cup front for the duration of their stay in the competition.
Kiveton Park vs Sheffield Union (League Cup)
United Worksop vs North Gawber Colliery (League Cup)
This mediocre League Cup record has sadly continued throughout Kiveton’s time in the
Denaby Main vs New Bohemians
County Senior League. Since 2013 Park have won only three League Cup ties, although
South Kirkby Colliery vs AFC Dronfield
two of those were cup upsets; a 4-0 away win at Sheffield Bankers in 2015 and a 2-1
Wombwell Main development vs Sheffield Medics
victory against AFC Dronfield a year later.
Here’s hoping for a return to our exploits of the early 60s and a cup final appearance this
season!
