Topic: BLOOD DONATION

I. Introduction
A. Every​ minute, somebody somewhere in our country ​needs blood​. The
Philippine ​Red Cross says we ​need​ 118 ​blood​ units ​every​ hour, 2,832
units ​every day​, and 1 million ​blood​ units ​every​ year.
B. Donating blood can not only save other people’s lives but yours as well
and it’s simpler than you think it is.

II. Body
A. Republic Act 7719
1. The National Blood Services Act of 1994 which is an act promoting
voluntary blood donation and to regulate blood banks
2. Aims to instill public awareness that blood donation is a
humanitarian act

B. Giving blood is very easy and simple.

1. Anybody above 16 can donate blood with only a few conditions.
a) Age requirements:
(1) 16-17 with parent’s consent
(2) 18 above don’t need parent’s consent
b) Conditions:
(1) Weight must be 110lbs / 50 kg
(2) Blood pressure of 90/60 mmHg to 160/100 mmHg
(3) Passes hemoglobin test -- especially for the anemic
and for females on their monthly period
*Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries
oxygen throughout the body

2. The process takes around an hour but the donation proper only
takes about 5-10 minutes.
3. Only 450mL of blood is withdrawn from your body.
a) There are 4-6L of blood circulating in our bodies so saying
that there isn’t enough blood in your body is NOT a valid
excuse.

C. Donating blood can save lives.

1. You can save 3-4 lives with a pint of blood
 2. The blood donated can be separated into 4 parts: plasma, platelets,
white blood cells and red blood cells, and all of these can be
utilized separately in a span of time.

D. Donating blood can save you.

1. This grants you self-satisfaction knowing that you’ve helped
someone or saved someone’s life.
2. It can help you improve your health.
a) Before the blood donation proper, you have to get yourself
check so this gives you the chance to receive a free check
up.
b) This reduces the risk of developing cancer.
c) Lastly, you lose approximately 650 calories.

III. Conclusion
A. Donating blood is easy and necessary in order for us to help all the people
who may need it.
B. It does not only help them but it helps you, too.
