Energy Audit: Conducting Training Workshops and Seminars for Energy Auditors and Managers

Background of this Idea

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Incorporated’s mission is to help lessen the use of energy of
companies and educate about the excessive usage of energy and also energy conservation and
efficiency. Energy plays a major factor for development and Philippines is a developing country. Energy
demand is increasing day by day and the energy supply is decreasing which results to rotational
brownouts and even some sections of the country do not have access to energy. In the case of energy,
less is more meaning lower energy consumption equals lower energy costs. And less energy
consumption is obviously beneficial to businesses and good for the environment.

The government is making ways to provide affordable and quality electricity to its citizens.
According to the Department of Energy (2018), the total energy consumption of the Philippines is
99,764,718 MWh and 27.7% of this (27,587,348) came from industries in the country. The DOE also has
mandated the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program to help industries to have a quality
and affordable energy so that they can provide low cost of goods and services and continuous
employment to the citizens. In first world countries, they have great efforts when it comes to conserving
energy in different ways which results to strengthen the energy reliability, adequacy and security.

Energy Audit distinguishes the areas of energy waste, determines the energy waste disposal and
set up the needs for the implementation of strategies. It is also one of the most demonstrated and
effective tool for the usage of energy conservation and efficiency. It recognizes how efficiently the
energy is being utilized, what the possible potential energy savings are, what specific actions should be
done to improve energy efficiency, what is the expense of these activities, what is the ideal and suitable
set of actions required and the guide for changing the prevailing conditions to guarantee the success of
the program.
The purpose of this Energy Audit is to

- Maximize efficiency and optimize energy

- Help reduce the energy usage
- Identify unnecessary wastages
- Help reduce environmental pollution and damage
- Help reduce the impact of the greenhouse effect
- Educate about the effect of excessive using of energy

Energy Audit includes the following:

- Lighting systems
- Air conditioner and cooling systems
- Ventilation System
- Major Appliances
- Steam and power generation, and distribution – if applicable
- Renewable Energy Systems
- Energy conservation practices

Project Description

This project helps the Energy Auditors and Managers to improve their skills in energy auditing. It
can also create awareness and promote the concept of energy conservation and efficiency.

 Goals
- To educate people about energy conservation and efficiency
- To make new knowledge and techniques in energy auditing
- To lessen the energy consumption
- To help industries to be more energy efficient
- To save energy costs
  Objectives
- To train and enhance the skills of Energy Auditors and Managers by attending workshops
and seminars
- To promote the awareness of energy conservation and efficiency

Methodology

The EECI with the partnership of DOE and SGS will conduct seminars and workshops monthly in
order to promote the concept of energy conservation and efficiency. The EECI branches will send three
participants that are related to energy efficiency, conservation, or audit to also discuss and disseminate
techniques and tools in Energy Audit, opportunities to practice and the implementation of it. This
training program and seminar will be held at the main branch of EECI which is in Dasmariñas, Cavite. This
project will be completed in 2 years and we will evaluate the participants if they really learn and
improve in this program.
