Questions regarding the lectures/exams in
German and English
The two Tracks in the Bachelor in Management and Technology are not to be seen as
separate study programs but as one study program with two alternatives (German Track
and English Track)

German track: in fact a Mixed Track; denomination should indicate for the international
students that they need German to study it

 New modeling in TUMonline to make it clear: Students have the possibility to choose
courses/exams in English or German (next slide)

Attention:
- For the label “100% in English” you need to take all courses in English (necessity to pick
Computer Engineering)
- To avoid an overlap of lectures and exams it’s recommended to chose the courses as in
the course schedules distinct by the two tracks
- consecutive modules (such as Law and Economics) > having chosen one of these modules
from the English Track/ German Track it is highly recommended that you continue the next
module within the language
4
TUM School of Management
Technical University of Munich

Students have the possibility to choose courses/exams in German or English

Please consider
that all
specializations in
Engineering/
Natural Sciences
require an
advanced level of
German skills!
Exception:
Computer
Engineering
It is highly recommended that you continue the consecutive module
within the chosen English Track or German Track!
The Most Important Legal Regulations
Regarding Your Study Program

6
General Academic and Examination
Regulations - I
Examinations
 A module is usually concluded with a module exam.
 In addition to the exam, further assessments (papers, mid-term etc.) may be required
during a course.
 Participation in the mid-term is voluntary.
 The grade reached in the mid-term exam will be taken into account only for the
improvement of the overall grade achieved in the module.
 A module is passed when you have successfully passed the module exam.
 Required modules and compulsory elective modules have to be passed.
(Exception: Elective modules)

7
General Academic and Examination
Regulations - II
Retaking the Module Exam
 For every module exam at least one opportunity to retake the exam will be given.

 Scheduling of the retake: Before the beginning or at the end of the lecture period of the
following semester.
 An improvement of the grade through retaking the exam is not permitted.
 The number of times that you may retake a failed module is unlimited- however,
sufficient „student‘s progress“ must be assured.
 Exceptions: Bachelor‘s Thesis and any attempt at deception (incl. plagiarism): only one
retake will be granted.
 In serious cases / or repeated attempts at deception the student can immediately be
excluded from taking further examinations in his study program (Result: Exmatriculation
!!!)
 Exams not passed at TUM may only be retaken at TUM.

8
General Academic and Examination
Regulations - III
Student‘s Progress
 In order to complete the degree program within the regular study period, students must
earn 30 credits per semester.
 Student‘s progress will be monitored once a semester.
 Students will be informed if they have earned fewer than 15 credits in a semester.
 Students must have earned at least the following total number of credits by the end of the
semester in question:
- Semester 3, min. 30 Credits
- Semester 4, min. 60 Credits
- Semester 5, min. 90 Credits
- Semester 6, min. 120 Credits
- Semester 7, min. 150 Credits
- Semester 8, min. 180 Credits
 If students do not earn the required number of credits by the end of the semester in
question, they will be considered to have failed the modules and will be deregistered from
the degree program.

9
Program-Specific Academic and Examination
Regulations (TUM-BWL Bachelor)

 By the end of the second semester, students must have passed at least three of the four
following exams: Mathematics I, Management Science, Statistics I, Economics I.

 Recognition of credits earned at another university is only possible during the first year of
study.

Please note: If you have more than 29 credits transferred during the course of your degree
you will automatically be moved into the next semester.

10
Other TUM / Faculty Internal Regulations

 Registration for exams always via TUMonline!

(Please pay attention to special regulations)

 Registration period for exams at the School of Management - WS 2016/17:

21. Nov 2016 to 15. Jan 2017
Please note: registration period for engineering/natural sciences may vary
(e.g.: Chemistry)!
Please always make sure that your registration was successful! (e-mail!)

 If an exam is not passed, you are obligated to retake the exam at the next possible
opportunity. If you need to retake an exam you need to register for the retake via
