COURSE OUTLINE
COURSE NAME SYNTHESIS OF FATTY ACID DERIVATIVES
COURSE CODE DMK3033
CREDIT(S) 3
PRE-REQUISITE(S) NONE
SYNTHESIS OF FATTY ACID DERIVATIVES contains basic knowledge on processes
SYNOPSIS that are involved in the production of selected fatty acid derivative (oleochemicals) as
well as the concept of hydrolysis, esterification, oxidation and reduction. This course
also provides essential knowledge about production of other oleochemicals and
saponification process of fatty acids.

COURSE LEARNING Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
describe the processes involved in the production of selected fatty acid
OUTCOMES (CLO) 1 derivatives (oleochemicals). (C3, PLO1)
display practical skills in carrying out synthesis of fatty acid derivatives in the
2 laboratory with effort to minimize wastage and pollution to the environment. (P4,
PLO2)
display problem solving skills in creating a new product using the CDIO
3 approach incorporating sustainable values. (A3, PLO4)
