Zinc Sulphate should be removed from Punjab Pure Foods Act as it will be used to curb the
deficiency of Zinc in Pakistan.

Information: As per Food Additive Regulations 2019 of FSSAI Zinc Sulphate should be allowed as a
source of mineral salts for usage in cereals and formulas. In infant milk formulas the amount of “Zinc”
should not be less than 2.5 mg and should not be more than 5.0 mg. The Amount added should be
clearly mentioned on the label and in case of it being used in Fortified Atta or Maida. The level of
fortification should be 30 mg per kg.

Recommendation: Zinc Sulphate should be permitted as a source for mineral salts.
