Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us

Title of the Article

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. The technology differences of 20th and 21st century
ii. Machines can make decisions

2. Insights (What new insights or learning did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that in 20th

century, their technologies aren’t strong enough as you compare in our
generation today. However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I
now think/realize that the difference between the said centuries doesn’t that
far when you compare it. In 20th century their weapons were powerful
enough to destroy a certain country like what happened in the city of Japan,
Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Americans dropped the world’s first dangerous
bomb, the atomic bomb, that it almost destroyed Hiroshima and
approximately 80,000 people were killed immediately in just one drop. And in
Nagasaki, 40,000 of people were estimated that are killed. That’s when
Japans emperor Hirohito announced his surrender thru radio, mentioning on
how powerful the atomic bomb is. That’s how dangerous technologies are. If
in 20th century, they built the most powerful bomb in history, how about more
in our generation. As we can observe in our surroundings, we are more
advance than in their time. So, we expect that there are more hidden
technologies now that are far more dangerous than the atomic bomb. Like
GNR or the genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics. We have invented these
kinds of technology that can affect or abuse us individually or small groups.
Well, this has also a positive side effects but, we can assume that if there are
pros there will also be cons.
ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that machines
can’t make decisions. However, reading the article/understanding the
lesson, I now think/realize that because of the computer scientist’s success on
making intelligent machines, our lives can put into danger. Example of this
are that, there is a program machine that can make another program. But
they forcedly shut it down because its making its own language. That’s how
dangerous technologies. They can make its own decision. And we, humans
are relying on technology nowadays. And in the future, our world don’t need
us, if the animals are starting to extinct well, Goodluck to us.
3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?
i. Can they invent a weapon that can destroy the whole world in just one
snap?
ii. What if they didn’t shut down the said intelligent machine? What is our
situation now?
