Lesson Plan in Mathematics III

SECOND QUARTER

I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:

1. Multiply 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000

2. Give the product of 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000
3. Show cooperation in doing the activities

II. Learning Content

Content: Multiplying 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000
Content Standards: The learners demonstrates understanding of multiplication and division
of whole numbers including money.

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill
Skip counting by 10s, 100s, and 1000s

2. Review
Let the pupils recall multiplying 2 to 3 digit numbers by multiples of 10s and
100s

3. Motivation
The teacher will present a picture of a woman selling a slippers.
What have you observed in the picture?
Do you want to know how much her sell?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Today, let us discuss about Multiplying 1 to 2 Digit Numbers by 1000
(The teacher will present to the class the Learning Targets of the day)
 I can multiply 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000
 I can give the product of 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000
 I can cooperate in every group activity

2. Teaching Modelling (I Do It)

The teacher will present a problem on how to multiply 1 to 2 digit numbers
by 1000.

To invite customers, Durango’s Store gives 1000 shopping points for every
purchase of 1 pair of slipper. How many points will you get if you buy 4 pairs?

 Who owns the store?

 How many points Durango’s Store will give if you buy 1 pair of slipper?
 What is asked in the problem?
 How are we going to solve the problem?

To solve the problem there are two ways:

Solution 1: By repeated addition

1000 + 1000 + 1000 + 1000 = 4000 points

Solution 2: By multiplying

1000
X 4
4000 points

Note: Multiply the non-zero digit then annex the number of zeros in the product.

C. Guided Practice (We Do it)

Activity 1: Divide the class into 3 groups. Let them solve the following exercises. The
first group who finish the exercises will be declare the winner.

1. 1000 2. 1000 3. 1000 4. 1000 5. 1000

X 2 x 8 x 32 x 20 x 9

Activity 2: Let the pupils play “Marathon 1000”, a game about multiplying numbers
by 1000. Group the class into 3 groups. The teacher will flash 1 to 2 digit
numbers which the pupils will multiply to 1000. The first group to write the
correct answer on the slate board shall be given 100 points. The first group
to accumulate 1000 points will be the winner.
Generalization:
How do we multiply 1 to 2 digit numbers by 1000?

Application:
Divide the class into 3 groups. Let the pupils solve the problem.

D. Independent Practice (You Do it)

Solve the Problem. Find the product.

IV. Evaluation:
Find the product of the following. Encircle the correct answer.

1. 3 x 1000 a. 300 b. 3 000 c. 30 000

2. 6 x 1000 a. 600 b. 60 000 c. 3 000
3. 10 x 1000 a. 10 000 b.1 000 c. 100
4. 46 x 1000 a. 4 600 b. 460 c. 46 000
5. 5 x 1000 a. 5 000 b. 50 000 c. 500

V. Assignment:
Find the product. Write the answer on your notebook.

1. 1000 2. 1000 3. 1000 4. 1000 5. 1000

X 39 x 8 x 12 x 6 x 44
