Introduction:
My name is Souradeep Arupkumar Bhattacharya born on 09th June 1993. The
technology is running the world. This is why you will discover that those businesses
that failed to embrace technology found their way to extinction. The problem is that
the more there is an advancement in the world of technology, the more the scope for
intrusion. For instance, cyber-attacks are one of the reasons why many companies
have experienced a lot of loses in the process of running their business. As a result,
there is lot of scope for people who are experts in this domain. I’ve always wanted to
be at the forefront of an industry that is impacting the world and hence I’ve taken a
decision to pursue a Master’s degree in the field of Cyber Security at Edith Cowan
University.
Education details and the reason for the delay:
I did my schooling from Shirinbai Neterwala School, an affiliate of the Central Board
of Secondary Education. I was a regular student at school and came up with flying
colors scoring 80% in 2010. During my 12th grade I studies at an institution affiliated
to Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune, I
was keen on learning integration and differentiation, and those chemical compounds
and study of physical matters and their deep analysis and finally came up with under
first division in 2012. To fulfill my desires which were hidden inside, I joined an
undergraduate course of Bachelor of Technology in the field of Computer Science
Engineering at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad in 2012. But
due to an ankle fracture of the right leg, I have advised complete bed rest and could
not attend the college in 2013, thereby losing one precious year of my life. Walking
on my feet again was an insurmountable mountain which was to be crossed and with
my never-ending hope and constant persistence, I stood up again. Things were
going well until 2016 and suddenly an infection of Hepatitis emerging from untreated
water infected my liver severely making me go back to bed again. Consequently, I
failed to appear the regular exams which resulted in backlogs. I have provided my
medical certification with the bills as evidence. Finally, I completed my graduation
even after such turmoil because my strong determination to prove myself which
compelled me to persevere through all odds. I’ve completed my Bachelor of
Technology in May 2018 with an aggregate of 55.75%.
Life has paved a way of thorns for me, but I never left a stone unturned. I never left
any tasks incomplete rendered upon me.
There are always up’s and down’s in life like there are crests and troughs in a
waveform. If the present is painful, the future will be happier. Same circumstances
never linger for long. Life offers a second chance always. If I am given a chance to
study at your university, I will leave no stones unturned. I will complete my MS in
time because now I am doing well. My health has been restored, blood levels are
high, immune system is strong, and the calcium content too is high.
Why Master’s degree?
With the completion of my undergraduate education, I am once again, at one of the
crossroads of life where I had to take a major decision which can finally shape my
future. Master study is a momentum milepost in the everlasting journey to education.
A master’s course would pave the way to earning hands-on experience and acquire
specialization. It would help me in honing my skills, earn proficiency and seek
professional exposure. Though comprehensive in the curriculum, the masters course
offers excellent scope for specialization. Employers need technology experts that
can help their business stay one step ahead. They are looking for candidates with:
hands-on experience
strong communication skills
technical skills
an understanding of the latest software
a proven ability to learn new technologies.
By doing masters I can achieve these goals, and more. A Masters won’t just ask me
to tackle more complex material. It will also challenge me to take more responsibility
for the way in which I do so. Even a taught program will involve lots of independent
reading and preparation. This means that I will need to be self-motivated and
enthusiastic about what I am studying. More people than ever are enrolling in
master’s degrees today, and because an undergraduate qualification alone can
sometimes fail to get me noticed alongside equally or more highly educated
candidates. These are some of the factors why I chose to do my masters.
Why not Master’s in India:
An international Bachelor’s Degree is also a gateway to employability prospects.
Indian students who wish to return home and seek job opportunities will have them in
bounty. Companies consider international exposure an important factor when making
decisions about which applicant to hire. And a Master’s Degree earned abroad will
demonstrate to my future employers that I possess a go-getter attitude.I didn’t
choose Indian universities as approximately half of the students graduate with either
no job or a job that doesn’t require the degree they receive. Employers are
overwhelmingly dissatisfied with graduate skill-sets and job readiness of the
graduates from Indian universities. Not just in tangible skills but in soft skills like
critical thinking, communication, and teamwork as well. There are tons of statistics
that show graduates in India still lack basic life skills like personal finance
knowledge, basic economic reasoning skills, basic health knowledge, and basic
writing/speaking skill. An international Bachelor’s Degree has global recognition that
will demonstrate that I have thrived and succeeded in an endeavour outside of my
comfort zone. One of the biggest advantages of studying abroad is that my language
skills are almost guaranteed to improve. The prospect of a secure job and others
factors mentioned above weighed in favour of me choosing to study abroad.
Why Australia over other countries?
I’ve looked into different countries like the USA, Australia, Iran, Singapore, and
Ireland. The curriculum in the USA isn’t common in all the states and keeps
changing from state to state. The fee of these said courses is also high when
compared to other courses in different countries. The education in Iran right now
takes a back-seat as the country is dealing with an economic crisis. The government
also doesn’t support the educational endeavors of merit students. Singapore has
good universities but the courses they offer aren’t recognized in all the places in the
world. The faculty is also below average, and the encouragement given to the
students isn’t up to the mark. I’ve also looked into Ireland and found that the
accommodation provided to the students in the country is sub-par. The rooms given
are not of average quality and lack most of the amenities making it uncomfortable in
a new country for me. Then I’ve chosen Australia for my master’s as the country
provides me with enough knowledge in any chosen field. The accommodation is
affordable with great quality and all the amenities. The faculty is also well-learned
and will offer me the best course knowledge which is better for my future. I’ve
chosen Australia for the same reason when comparing it with others.
Why only Australia?
I choose to study in Australia because of its friendly, laid-back nature, excellent
education system, and a high standard of living. Graduates from Australian schools
are highly sought after due to the impressive international reputation of the
Australian education system. One of the most appealing aspects of the country for
international students is the quality of scientific research. Australia is at the forefront
of new technology and innovations. Australia is closer to India (10–12hr flight from
India). So, if I want to study somewhere that’s closer to home, Australia is the best
bet. The cost was a big factor for me. The reason I chose Australia before I could
switch to any other developed nation is the climate. As I have been brought up in the
warm climate of central India, getting accustomed with snowing winters will be
painful. Australians speak English, so it won't be a great issue to communicate. The
student visa frameworks are simplified. The environment is cosmopolitan and
unsullied nature attracted me the most. Australia is an unparalleled beautiful country
with golden sandy beaches, tropical rainforests, incredible deserts, snowy
mountains. Summers are hot and glorious, winters are mild, Autumn comes with
rolling mints and golden glorious leaves. The society is culturally diverse and is
home to some interesting, rare animals like kangaroos, wombats, and dingoes which
I have only seen in televisions. Hence, I’ve chosen Australia to better my career
prospects.
Comparison of Edith Cowan University with other universities:
I’ve come across different universities like Central Queensland University, Edith
Cowan University, Charles Sturt University, LaTrobe University, Griffith University,
and Southern Cross University. I’ve chosen to study at Edith Cowan University than
any other university because of the course content offered at the university. The
master’s degree at Edith Cowan University isn’t just a master’s degree but the whole
package to improve my interpersonal skills as well. Edith Cowan University is young
than universities like LaTrobe University and Griffith University. The student
concentration at Edith Cowan University is higher than that of the concentration at
Southern Cross University. The class sizes are small with limited students which will
let me get the best attention from the lecturers at the university. The class sizes at
LaTrobe University and Charles Sturt University are very big with around 60-70
students. The teaching excellence at Edith Cowan University is much better than the
one at Southern Cross University and Central Queensland University. The QS
ranking of Edith Cowan University is much better than Southern Cross University.
The student satisfaction rate at Edith Cowan University is much higher than the rate
at Central Queensland University and Southern Cross University. Hence, I’ve chosen
Edith Cowan University over all other universities.
Edith Cowan University:

Career Outcomes:
Keeping in mind that all companies are searching for Qualified Cybersecurity
Professionals, thus having a certification or degree in cybersecurity will definitely
work to my advantage. The unemployment level in the cybersecurity field is almost
zero. This is a clear indication that the demand level is higher than supply, which
only leads to a major rise in the pay grade. A few of the job roles that I can pursue
with a cybersecurity degree include Information Security Analyst, Penetration Tester,
Security Architect, initially with companies like Cisco, Netgear and Linksys. Then I
would move to higher roles like lead Security Analyst in the next 4 years and earn a
salary around Rs7-8 lakhs and to the role of Chief Information Security Officer,
Forensic Computer Analyst down the line in the next 7-10 years. I got the information
from Job Portals like Monster.com, Naukri.com and Indeed.com and the pay range
from payscale.com.
My goal is to become a cybersecurity professional using my programming skills to be
able to develop a new algorithm for data protection and filtering in order to safeguard
sensitive information. This master’s program will enable me to do just that, equipping
me with necessary programming skills and with relevant platforms that will make me
a qualified candidate in the job market. This degree will pave me a way to apply my
skills to encrypting and securing important information for companies and the
government. I strongly believe that through this mode of teaching, I will be excellently
prepared to enter the industry as a Cyber Security Professional.

Immigration History:
I have not visited any country earlier and this is the first time I will be traveling to an
International destination just to do my masters which will be for 2 years & I am sure
that I will obey the above-mentioned rules & regulations during my stay in Australia.
Coming back to India:
The main benefit of getting a master’s degree in cybersecurity is the additional
managerial and leadership training I will receive. With the right degree under my belt
and the propensity for continuous learning, I will be able to transform my professional
trajectory, increase earning potential and make a significant impact on society.
Cybercrime is constantly on the rise, ranging from email scams and phishing to
identity theft and ransomware ––all of which is planned by major crime
organizations. This increase in the prevalence of cybercrime attacks on business
organizations, government infrastructures, and individuals has emphasized the
importance of cybersecurity. Due to the rise in cybercrime, and our reliance on the
digital world, the demand for a cybersecurity workforce is expected to rise over the
next few years, leading to 1.8 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs by 2022.
Conclusion:
I promise to be a diligent and a sincere student in my chosen Master’s degree
course and completing the course on time with distinction marks in the curriculum. If
offered a chance to study at Edith Cowan University, I will give all my strength to
actively perform all the projects assigned and bring out the best results among all
other mates. I have raised my immunity, calcium, HB levels through various vitamins
and protein products and some other strength programs. Also, I have learned all the
pre-requisites of programming prior to the specialization in the cybersecurity course.
I will try every possible course of action once I complete the highly rated course
offered Edith Cowan University and further serve the government and the
investigation teams of India in the near future. I will complete my course on time as I
will have no distractions in the study-friendly environment in Australia. Things have
not been in my favor during my graduation, but I coped with the circumstance well
and scored good marks in PTE exam. This is a fight with my own inner self to
outperform my previous education lifestyle. This is my own race and I want to
exceed my previous performance and rectify all those mistakes done before. I am in
strong hope that Edith Cowan University will be the best stage to illuminate the latent
skills inside me and that will shape me into a special individual who can serve my
own nation in the future through the special skills which I will go through studying
under the kind guidance of Edith Cowan University.
