Personal Statement
Realized of nuclear energy can be used to generate electricity more effective and efficient
than another sources, and various applications of nuclear energy. For this reason, I would like to
pursue a career in nuclear engineering. Three years since I graduated from senior high school and
continued my journey in realm nuclear science and nuclear engineering in Universitas Gadjah
Mada (UGM), Nuclear Engineering and Physics Engineering Departement, the only one university
in Indonesia that have nuclear engineering undergraduate program. Which is, Universitas Gadjah
Mada is one of the best universities in Indonesia. I learned basic theory about nuclear reaction
(fission and fusion) and radiations, nuclear energy application, and reactor operation. Application
of nuclear not only for generated electricity, but can be used in medical and another engineering
applications such as installation application.
One of the subjects I learned in nuclear application was Non Destructive Test (NDT). It
learns about designed to reveal defects/discontiunity at weld or pipe, after which a decision is made
as to whether the defect is significant from the point of view of operational safety and/or reliability.
However, NDT is also used for purposes such as the checking of assembled parts, the development
of manufacturing processes, the detection of corrosion or other forms of deterioration during
maintenance inspections of process installations and in research. There are many methods of NDT,
such as Magnetic Testing, Ultrasoic Testing, Penetrant Testing, Radiography Testing, etc.
Radiography Testing used energy of radiation such as gamma radiation, from source to inspect the
crack or discontinuity in weld or pipe. This technique were very usefull to detect defects without
demage that instrument. Using nuclear radiation for inspection were acurate because of radiation,
especially gamma radiation, can penetrate objects deeper. Therefore, I had internship in PT. Kaltim
Methanol Industri (PT. KMI) with my friends in Bontang, East Kalimantan where we studied about
installation inspection. We learned how to implement theory that we got from lecture, with many
methods of NDT. PT. KMI used outsources if they wanted to use inspection with nuclear radiation
Even, PT. KMI had no radiation inspection equipment, the mentor taught us how to read inspection
result with nuclear radiation.

Along my study in UGM, my experience especially when I had intenship, and my interest
of radioisotope, I am going to prepare my thesis for my undergraduate thesis and ther are two
themes that interest me, application of radioisotope or nuclear power energy. Next, after graduating
I plan to deepen my knowladge of nuclear energy application that can be usefull in industrial, such
as detecting oil usinh radiosiotope or how to create nuclear battery.
