Resolved: Free wifi Access in School Campus be Implemented (NEGATIVE)

BENEFICIALITIES

Good day ladies and gentlemen! I, standing from the negative side will have the pleasure to state the
tremendous and significant results of not having free wifi access inside the campus which pretty much
evident in our present time.

Books have been around for hundreds of years, the pen and paper has been around a lot longer than
television and computer video games. Before computers and the digital age, books were the only way of
recording and storing information. Before computer was invented book comes first. And the people in
the past had made a great example and diplomacy in their existence that until now, we still idolize and
study them like Dr. Jose Rizal. They gain knowledge and impart it effectively with the use of the simple
ways of learning. Did they use wifi before? No. Were they not effective before without wifi? Did they not
succeed without wifi? No.

Every year thousands of books were produced by the government for the students. The school library
was filled with piles of books. But if you try to visit it my dear opponent, there are only few who flip the
pages of it. Where are the students who are suppose to be the users? They are scattered in different
internet cafe relying their assignments on the information from different websites as their sources.
Laziness... Lack of patience and resourcefulness... Cheating that sometimes leads them to plagiarize
articles and pictures like what happened to Mark Joseph Solis one of the students in the University of
the Philippines who copied a photo from a professional photographer and passed it for a photo contest .
Those are the integrated values to students because of the different invented search engines. Where is
the sense of creativity there? Is there originality? None. Is learning occurred? No!

If we have wifi, did we solve the problem? No. Perhaps we will make it worst. If there’s no wifi there are
no gadgets if there are no gadgets there would be no destructions and students will switch back to the
traditional way of learning which will be a great help to increase their concentration to do their works
and expand their vocabularies. Just what Northrop Frye ones said and I quote “The most technologically
efficient machine that man has ever invented is the book” end of quote.

ALA, one of the oldest and largest library in the United States reports that only 8% of what the books
consists was on the internet. If we do not have wifi in school, students will be driven to the more
reliable, credible and appropriate search- the books. Books found in the library will be given value as
well as the library itself. Through this, their sense of originality and creativeness will be stimulated
because they will discover knowledge independently without the help of wifi and internet. In the long
search that they will encounter in the use of print materials, their sense of responsibility, perseverance,
patience, diligence will elevate.

For 53 years of our beloved school’s existence, they produced highly upright and knowledgeable
graduates who became professionals without the use of wifi but they all became productive.
Our university has the Electronic- Library where several units are provided. If we do not have free wifi, in
terms of projects that are needed computer involvements they would probably proceed there. You will
probably say that the E-lib cannot accommodate all students. But you just went there ones and did not
try anymore. If the E-lib will be proved effective, it would be a great help in the school accreditation that
will increase the standard of our university and would probably come up with improving and adding
more Electronic library. The E-lib would also be be conducive when it comes to learning just like the
library because it provides comfort and peaceful atmosphere unlike using wifi that students will be
crowded that results destruction to ones concentration. There are also trained and knowledgeable
professionals who are available for our assistance who are the friendly librarians and the expert I.T
instructors.

When there is no wifi, the aforementioned values that students would have will help them increase
their academic performances that would also be very beneficial to the teachers as well as the parents.
The school will produce then graduates with adequate knowledge, with good profile and experience
that is useful in their future career. Later, the school will be applauded.

Let us adapt change and technology but let u choose those with good intentions for the betterment of
our lives. Noel Coward ones said and I quote “ The higher the building the lower the moral” end of
quote. For many years values were earned and in just the idea of having free wifi, everything will vanish
away. So I the third speaker strongly disagree in the implementation of free wifi access inside the
campus.
