Q1. Why do we need water?
A. We need water for many purposes like to quench our thirst, to water the plants,
to put off fire, to brush our teeth, to take bath, to wash clothes, utensils and
vehicles.

Q2. What are the sources of water?

A. Rain is the main source of water on the earth. Mountains are covered with
snow but during summer the snow melts to form rivers. Some of the water
seeps underground and this water is drawn from wells, hand pumps or tube
wells.
Q3. How can we save water?
A. We can save water by following simple methods like –
 Turn off the tap while brushing
 Do not use showers while bathing instead use bucket and a mug.

  Check the leakage of water and get it repaired
 Water the plants by using water can
 Leftover water in the water bottle can be used to water the plants.

Q4. How can we purify water at home?

A. At home we can purify water by:
 Boiling it for minimum 10 to 15 minutes
 Adding chlorine tablets in it
 Filtering it

Q5. What makes river water dirty?

A. When the snow melts to form rivers, the water is clean. But as the river
reaches the plains the human activities like bathing, washing and throwing waste
make the water dirty.
Q6. Do not use shower while bathing. Justify the statement
A. Do not use shower while bathing as it will waste a lot of water. Instead we can use
a bucket and mug to take bath.
