CONSUMPTION AND SPENDING HABITS

Based on the survey conducted on 98 ACIS students, there are few questions asked about
their average consumption and their spending habits. Hence, these are the information from the
survey that was obtained:

Source of allowance:

The survey asked the students about their source of allowance, which the choice of
answers is consist of parents, loan, scholarship and part-time job.

Based on the pie chart, parent is the highest source of allowance which is 78.6% from 98
of ACIS students, followed by 17.3% of students that depends on loan and 4.1% students
depends on part-time job. Meanwhile, there is no students depends on scholarship.

UiTM semester fees is quite cheap and affordable, hence it is probably one of the reasons
why students only depend on parent only for their allowance. Other than that, the price of food
and beverages in the cafeteria in UiTM also cheap and affordable. Some of the parents, did not
allowed the student to take the study loan or financing because it will burden them in the future.
Moreover, some students also do part-time job to generate more of their income, such as catering
services and small businesses. For the scholarship, maybe the students are not qualified for it. In
a nutshell, parent is the most common source of allowance of students.
Average monthly allowance:

The survey also contain question about the average of the student monthly allowance.
The choice given are less than RM50, RM51 to RM150, RM151 to RM250, RM251 to RM350 and
more than RM350.

Based on the pie chart, the highest average monthly allowance of 98 ACIS students is
RM251 to 350, which is 32 students from the 98 students, followed by 27 students that have the
average monthly allowance of RM151 to RM 250. After that, the third highest average monthly
allowance is RM50 to RM150, which is from 23 out of 98 students, followed by 15 students that
have an average monthly allowance more than RM350. Lastly, there is only one student that have
average monthly allowance of RM50.

RM251 to RM350 is reasonable monthly allowance for a student. This is because that
amount of money can already cover necessities of a student such as food, beverages, books and
stationaries. Students also might save a bit of the money for future usage. For the one student
that only have less than RM50 monthly allowance, he or she might be facing financial crisis.
Hence, RM251 to RM350 is the most common average monthly allowance for a student.
Items or services of monthly spending:

The survey asked the students about what items or services that they usually spend in a
month. The choice of answers consists of food and beverages, clothes, books, electronic devices,
healthcare and cosmetic and entertainment. The students can pick more than one answer for
them.

Based on the single bar chart, 99% of 98 ACIS students like to spend on food and
beverages, which is the highest of all, followed by healthcare and cosmetic that 27 students like
to spend on. The third items or services that students like to spend is books, followed by
entertainment, which only have one difference number of students. Lastly, the second lowest
items that students like to spend is clothes, which is only 11 students, while only 8 students like
to spend on electronic devices.

Food and beverages are necessities for human daily consumption. Without foods and
beverages, humans are less likely to survive. Moreover, students love food. In the era of media
social, most of the viral things on social media is food. Thus, it impacts onto the consumption of
a students. Other than that, electronic devices are the lowest items for student to spend monthly
is because electronic devices have a longer usage spend. Unlike foods and beverages, electronic
devices usually last more than a month. Therefore, foods and beverages are the common monthly
consumption for students.
Stores and businesses:

The survey contains a question that asked the students to list out a store or business that
majority of their consumption and spending occurs. However, the question is not required for the
students to fill in the answers. Hence, only few of the 98 students fill their answer. The information
listed as below:

Based on the listed stores and businesses, all of it is available near the UiTM Puncak
Alam. Most of the listed stores and businesses are foods and beverages, which are fast food
restaurants. Other than that, there are few stores or businesses that have similarities, which are
Brand Outlet, Uniqlo, Cinema, MPH, MySale, McDonalds, Kentucky Friend Chicken (KFC), and
Sushi are available at Setia City Mall. However, cafeteria is the most available because it is in the
UiTM itself. It is near to student’s residency.
