5. Have you been keeping a record of Parameter 15204? (coefficient)
6. Temporary fix for the 4063 alarm. (Only proceed with this step if you have completed all steps
previous to this one 1-5).
7. Preventative maintenance

1. Did you change Gas bottles recently? (Not within the last two weeks; then go to step 2)
 Confirm that you have the correct bottle of gas attached and the gas is within specs.
 CO2 = 5% (5.25% -- 4.75%)
 He = 40% (42% -- 38%)
 N2 = 55% (57.75% -- 52.25%)
 Water Vapor < 5 ppm
 Hydrocarbon < 1 ppm
 Gas Purity < 99.999
 Try a different bottle of gas use one with a different lot number then the one attached.
 When changing gas bottles Purge the system two time before trying to start the laser.
 To purge laser
 Turn on laser key switch.
 Mode “MDI”
 Push Hard Key “SYSTEM”
 Push Soft Key “DIAG”
 Look up parameter “905” and monitor closely number will change fast.
 Turn off laser key when “DIAG 905 is about 25 (or 2.5 Torr, control does not indicate a
decimal)
 Are there any new results? If not Continue.

2. Is you chiller water at proper operating temperature?

 Check your Chiller temperature. The top number on display is your actual water temperature which
MUST BE AT LEAST 70 F. The lower number on the display is set point should be set to about
78.6. (operating temperature is about 75 - 83 F)
 If the water is to cold.
 You should only hear the water pump running not the compressor or fans.
 You need to warm the water to at least 70 F before trying to start the laser.
3. Do you have a Laser Gas Leak?
 External Leak Rate Test
 With the laser off
 Turn on laser gas bottle
 Adjust Secondary pressure to approximately 26 PSI
 Turn off laser gas bottle
 Note down the primary gauge pressure (this is the gauge to the right with the higher pressure reading)
 Wait 15 minutes
 Read the gas pressure on primary gauge did it drop?
 The pressure should not have dropped more than 8 PSI. (Realistically this is not readable on
this gauge. It should not have moved)!
 If the pressure did not change you are done, go to step 2.
 If the pressure did change continue with the following steps.
 Turn on the laser gas bottle
 Get some soapy water (Dish soap or liquid hand soap works well. Enough to make lots of bubbles)
 Soap down all laser gas fittings that may cause a leak. Especially between gas bottle and
regulator. Secondary Gauge Primary side should not drop
Set to 25 psi
more than 10% overnight
 Fix the leak. Repeat soapy water test. when supply valve is shut off

 Internal Leak Rate Test

 With the laser key OFF Control ON
 Mode “MDI”
 Push hard key “OFFSET SETING” Check for Leaks here Gas Bottle

 Push soft key “SETING”

 Verify that “PARAMETER WRITE = 1” If not change it to “1” (1= Enable, 0= Disable)
 Ignore the alarm
 Push hard key “SYSTEM”
 Push soft key “PARM”
 Change parameter 15240 to “0” (original 20 if different record original value)
 Turn ON laser key switch. Time the machine when you turn the laser key switch for 9
minutes
 Turn OFF laser cabinet breaker at 9 minutes (Do not go beyond 10 minutes control will alarm and you
will need to start procedure again.)
 Turn OFF laser key switch
 Turn OFF control
 Turn ON laser cabinet breaker
 Turn ON control
 Ignore the alarm after turning on control.
 Mode “MDI”
 Push hard key “SYSTEM”
 Push soft key “DIAG”
 Go to DIAG 905
 Record Exhaust end pressure value, and time this for 15 minutes.
 What is the pressure after 15 minutes?
 How much did DIAG 905 increase over the 15 minutes from starting value. Max pressure
increase is 22 (or 2.2 Torr, Control does not indicate decimal point).
 Go back to Parameter 15240 and change back to the original number
 Change “PARMAETER WRITE” enable back to “0”
 Turn control OFF and ON.
 If the pressure increase is more than 22 call AESI with results.
4. When does the alarm come up? (note down you results on next page)
 Within the first six minutes of turning on the laser?
 Turn on laser key
 Mode “MDI”
 Push hard key “SYSTEM”
 Push soft key “DIAG”
 Go to DIAG 906
 Watch the output of power (note down the changing values of 906 form 0-Highest value)
 If output wattage goes to 1500W +/- 100 Watts (or 2000W for 2000watt laser) Wait one
minute, and note down “DIAG 905, 909,910,911,912”
 Did the laser come up all the way
 In the beginning of a program (When piercing)?
 With the laser on High voltage light on lower left corner of control, (above laser key switch)
must be on constantly.
 Take off the three back panels of the laser cabinet, and look through the fans upper portion of
cabinet you should see a four plasma tubes glowing purple, two on each side about 1-2 inches
long.
 Are all four tubes glowing? Note down
 In middle of a program?
 Where in the program does the laser Alarm out.
 What is the cutting condition that you were using when you got the alarm, note down.

5. Have you been keeping a record of Parameter 15204? (coefficient)

 Record your numbers on page #4.

6. Temporary Fix for the 4063 Alarm. (Only proceed with this step if you have
completed all previous steps).

6.1
 Mode “MDI”
 Push hard key “OFFSET SETING”
 Push soft key “SETING”
 Change “PARAMETER WRITE = 1” (1= Enable, 0= Disable)
 Ignore the alarm
 Push hard key “SYSTEM”
 Push soft key “PARM”
 Continue to 6.2

6.2
 Go to parameter 15242 & 15243 Record original parameter. Then decrease that value by 30 (Example
of 15242 & 15243 = 660 change to 630)
 Change “PARAMETER WRITE” enable back to “0”
 Turn control OFF and ON.
 Start laser.
 Note down results on page 5. Did the laser come up ? any alarms? What is parameter 15204 after laser
is up?
 If laser still alarmed out continue to step 6.3

6.3
 Power Control Off and On
 Go back to step 6.1 then continue with step 6.3
 Change parameter 15208 set to 0 (record original Parameter Numbers)
15209 set to 0
15000 bit 4 from 1 to 0 (example 00110010 to 00100010)
 Start laser.
 Note down results on next page. Did the laser come up ? any alarms?
 If laser still alarmed out continue to step 6.4

6.4
 Power machine Off and On
 Go back to step 6.1 then continue with step 6.4
 Change parameter 15271 set to 3600 (record original Parameter Number)
 Start laser.
 Note down results on next page. Did the laser come up ? any alarms?
 If laser alarmed out continue
 Open rear panels of laser cabinet. Look at each power supply for red LED’s both should have one LED
on if one power supply has more than one led lit that is the power supply that has failed. Look just
below the bottom of the power supply for a label (PSU1 or PSU2).
 Change Parameter 15025 &15027 this will turn off the bad power supply.
(Example original 00000011 if PSU1 is bad change to 00000010)

6.5
 Power machine Off and On
 Start laser.
 Note down results on next page. Did the laser come up? Any alarms?
 If alarmed out alter bits changed in 6.4 and try one last time. (example 00000010 to 00000001)
