PREFACE

Praise and gratitude the authors submit to God Almighty for all his grace the
author can complete the Critical Journal Review assignment entitled "T-Test
Statistics". The author realizes that this paper is far from perfect. Therefore,
constructive criticism and suggestions are needed in perfecting this paper. Then if there
are many errors in this paper the authors apologize profusely.

The author also thanks all parties, especially to our statistics lecturers who have
guided in the writing of this paper. Hopefully this paper can be useful.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background
Critical Journal Review is the result of criticism or comparison of a material topic that is
generally lectured on the results of other people's different research. Critical Journal writing is
basically to find out and compare journals with two journals that will be used as a reference source.
Each research journal created by a particular author must have advantages and disadvantages of
each of the ways to analyze the problem.
The feasibility of a journal can we know if we make a comparison of one journal with a
comparison of other journals. A journal with more dominant advantages compared to its
drawbacks means that this journal is appropriate to be used and used as a reference source for the
general public.

1.2 Objectives
Critical Journal (critical journal review) was made as one of the useful scientific references
to increase the insight of writers and readers in knowing the strengths and weaknesses of a journal,
to be taken into consideration, and also complete one of the individual tasks of the Statistics course
at Medan State University.

1.3 Benefits
a) Help the reader know the general description and assessment and a journal or other
scientific papers in a concise manner.
b) Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the journal being criticized.
c) Knowing the background and reasons for the journal.
d) Know the quality of the journal by comparing it against the work of the same author or
other authors.
e) Give input to journal writers in the form of criticism and suggestions on how to write, the
contents, and the substance of the journal.
CHAPTER III

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

A. Advantages
Journal 1:
 The first journal discussion is very easy for readers to understand, the theory of
the discussion is also very clear to be used as a basis for the theory
 The results of the first journal research are easy to see and understand because the
reader is presented in the form of tables and bar charts so that the reader can
understand the contents of the journal well.

Journal 2:

 Supporting theories in the second journal are more specific and clear so that the
reader can better understand the independent variables and the dependent
variables in the research of this journal
 the choice of words used is very good so that it can be understood properly as
well as by the inclusion of formulas and discussions that can be well understood
by the reader

B. Disadvantages
Journal 1:
 In the journal, the results of the research are the results of the contribution of
motivation that affect learning achievement. But the shortcomings in the journal
are not described indicators of motivation to better support the first journal theory.
 in this journal the author states that the writer did not test the assumptions

Journal 2:

 In journals on the results of the study did not show the results of research in a
form specific to the form of tables or salt bars.
 Indicators of motivation are not elaborated in journals.
CHAPTER IV

CLOSING

A. Conclusion

In particular, parametric statistical methods confer reasonable statistical conclusions only

when the statistical assumptions are fully met. It is important to know the type of test to use when
analysing data. Otherwise we might draw wrong conclusions by committing either type I or type
II error. Some researchers often regard these statistical assumptions inconvenient and neglect
them. Even some statisticians argue on the basic assumptions, based on the central limit theory,
that sampling distributions display a normal distribution regardless of the fact that the population
distribution may or may not follow a normal distribution, and that t tests have sufficient statistical
power even if they do not satisfy the condition of normality.
Normality test should be conducted before using either independent sample t-test, dependent
sample t-test or one sample t-test. All the three t-tests can be calculated using either Statistical
Package for Social Science (SPSS) or by using formula. The article has provided general
definitions of all the three t-tests and when to apply them when conducting a study. This article
has also highlighted the importance of conducting the effect size when conducting a study.

B. Suggestion

I suggest using both journals as additional references. because both journals discuss the same
thing. Based on the journal, there is journal that researchers didn’t test basic statistical assumptions
and employ methods that are widely accepted so as to draw valid statistical conclusions. But, it’s
not be a problem to using these journals.
