The national law day as called previously is now the Constitution Day.

It is
also known as samvidhan divas. The day is observed every year on 26th of
November. It was on this day of 1949, our Indian constituent assembly
adopted the Constitution of India. The constitution took effect on 26th
January 1950,which we call as republic day. The constitution day was
celebrated to bring awareness regarding the importance of constitution.

The constitution day can never happen without glorifying the principal
architect of the constitution, Dr. BR Ambedakar or Babasaheb Dr. Bhirao
Ramji Ambedakar who was the first law minister of India. He was born on
14th april 1891 in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. Inspite of being of Scheduled
Caste, he did various courses form India and abroad, he also did
doctorate in science, law and literature from columbia and osmania
universities respectively. He was also the first law minister of India. Also
he was appointed as the first chairman of the Constitution Drafting
Committee on August 2,1947.

Today, Indian Constitution has experienced 69 yrs. of practice since

1949.It is the longest written constitution with 448 articles in 25 parts,
12 schedules, 5 appendixes and amendments. It took around
2years 11 months and 17 days to write and pass it to the constituent
assembly. The original constitution was handwritten and calligraphed in
both hindi and English by Prem Behari Narain Raizda and is still preserved
in the Parliament of India. The Indian constitution has taken various good
features from constitutions of various countries, therefore it is also
known as bag of borrowings. The concepts of Liberty, Equality and
Fraternity were taken from the French Constitution. The idea of Five year
plans was from USSR and the concept of socio economic right was taken
from Ireland. Most importantly, the law on which the Supreme Court
works was taken from Japan. There are many other concepts from other
nations which are incorporated into the Indian constitution.
Dr. Ambedkar and the framers of the constitution had a good foresight
with the result the Indian constitution even today remains as relevant as
the time it was enacted. The preamble of the Constitution, which
provides the basic foundation for the constitution was amended for the
first time in 1976 through the 42nd amendment and amendment itself
called “ Mini Constitution”. It amended the preamble and changed the
description of India from “Soverign, Socialist, Republic” to “soverign,
Socialist, Secular Democratic Republic”, in which secular means equal
treatement of all the religions by the state and it also changed the phrase
“Unity of the Nation” to “Unity and Integrity of the Nation.”
