LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS – GRADE 6

L.C. Divide simple fractions and mixed fractions.

I. Objectives
At the end of 20-minute period, the students will be able to:
a. discuss what is simple fractions;
b. value the importance of division in our daily life; and
c. calculate simple fractions into the simplest form.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Dividing Simple Fraction
Concept: Dividing two fractions in the same as multiplying the first
fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction. The first step
to dividing fractions is to find the reciprocal ( reverse the
numerator and denominator ) of the second fraction. Next,
multiply the two numerators. Then, multiply two
denominators.
Values: Appreciate the importance of fractions in our daily life.

The teacher will show or post a picture of a cake on the
board and instruct his/her students to observe and
analyse what is in the picture base on their sense within 5
seconds.
C. Analysis
1. What have you observed about the picture?
2. How can you slice the cake equally?
3. In this picture, do you have any idea what will be our new lesson
for today?

D. Abstraction
1. Discuss what is simple fraction
2. Cherish the importance of learning simple fractions.
3. How do you simplify fractions step by step

E. Application: Group Share

 Solve and Circle Step by Step


The teacher will divide his/her students into 2 groups. The
teacher will provide worksheets in each group. Based on
the worksheet direction, the teacher will instruct his/her
students to answer the given activity step by step. First,
the students will solve the fraction problem and reduce
the answer to simplest form. Second direction, the
students will look the shaded part of each shape and
circle the correct letter of your answer that describes the
shaded portion. Each pair will have 4-minute to answer
the questions given finish or un-finish.

IV. Assignment
Read in advance our next topic from your mathematics
Textbook from page 43 to page 46.
