Cancer event
gains support
Fiji’s longest running cancer
fundraiser which is in its 13th
year has ended on a high note for
the 2019 campaign.
The Bushells Fiji’s Biggest
Morning Tea (BFBMT) initiative
which was launched in 2006 is
held every year from June – Sep-
tember.
On Wednesday, September 25,
the initiative’s principal sponsor
– Motibhai Group held their own
morning tea event at their head-
office in Nasoso, Nadi collecting
a whopping $30,000 to support
cancer awareness, advocacy and
patient care.
The event turned out to be a
sea of colours as stakeholders
from various business houses and
organisations came out in record
numbers to be part of the noble
cause.
“This is the first time we have
been able to collect over $30,000
in a single tea party event and
this goes to show that the support
for the battle against cancer is in-
creasing,” Motibhai Group chair-
man Kirit Patel said.

Times’ family fun day
STAFF members of the Fiji Times Pte Ltd and their families con-
verged at Albert Park in Suva for a family fun day on Saturday,
September 28.
The fun day was part of activities organised by the company to
mark its 150th anniversary.
Editor Fred Wesley said the fun day was a special occasion for
family members of The Fiji Times.
“It’s an opportunity for us to welcome family members who play
a very, very important role for The Fiji Times,” Wesley said.
“These are the people behind the scenes all the time. These are
the people who provide the base for the journalists who are out
there, the photographers. Everyone plays an important role in en-
suring that the news is delivered on a daily basis.
“It’s not just the people on the frontline.
“It involves everyone from admin, to circulation and production
— it involves family members who are ensuring that our staff are
going out to work confident and not having to worry about anything
else.” Wesley also thanked readers of The Fiji Times.
“You motivate us on a daily basis and inspire us to do what we
do.” Part of the staff members during the family fun day.

Prouds celebrates
Chinese festival
Prouds stores in Nadi and Suva was a hive of activity as they marked
China’s second largest festival which is getting very popular in
Fiji with an influx of more Chinese investors and tourists into
the country.
Held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month in the Chinese calendar,
the Mid-Autumn Festival also known as Moon Festival is the
second grandest festival after the Spring Festival in China.
Interestingly, this year’s celebrations also coincided with the 164th
anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese in Fiji. There is no
doubt, Fiji would not have been the same if it was not for the
substantial contribution of our Chinese community for the past
one hundred and sixty-three-years.
While the important Moon Festival begins to gain greater momen-
tum here in Fiji, retail giants Prouds is indeed proud to be the first
outlet in the country to start the celebrations with special offers.
To mark the auspicious festival, Prouds Suva Central and Prouds
Downtown Nadi outlets had whole-day specials and giveaways
on Friday, September 13.
Customers took advantage of the great specials on watches, jew-
ellery, handbags, sunglasses, fragrances, wines and much more
during the day event.
