NARRATIVE REPORT

NATIVIDAD, MADELLE T.

On-the-job-training is part of every college Curriculum. Through this, we students, were

able to grab the opportunity to actually apply our academic experience to the workplace experience

in the real world. This On-The-Job Training has provided for us to enhance our knowledge,

practice our skills and competencies and apply our learnings based on our own field of

specialization. As a student trainee, I am able to have this opportunity to share my knowledge,

enhance myself and take advantage on tools I have equipped in this University, that is, to be

confident enough in pursuing the different opportunities available in the outside world and be able

to grow and prepare myself in the endeavours of actual work experience.

Before choosing what agency I was going to apply, my objective was to obtain an on-the-

job training where I can enhance my critical and analytical skills that I obtain from my academic

experience as a Business Administration major in Marketing student. With this, together with my

fellow trainees, we pursued our application to be a student trainee at Bank of the Philippine Islands.

BPI is the first bank in the Philippines and in the Southeast Asian Region. And fortunately, our

application was accepted but, we were not able to start our on the job training because they still

have other trainees during that time and the Account Officer, Mr. Samuel Matammu told us to let

them finish their on the job training before we start. The other trainees will end on September, so

I thought that it will be a waste of time if I am going to wait for them to finish without doing

anything that is why I talked to my instructor and asked if I can start my on the job training at the

University temporarily while waiting for the other trainees to finish. Luckily, she agreed and

assigned me at the SEAIDITE Deans Office.

It was the first of school when I started my on the job training at the Office of Academic

Dean of School of Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design and Information Technology

Eduction of this University, University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao. During my first day, I met

Ma’am Beverly Evangelista or commonly called Ma’am Babes., the secretary of the Dean of

SEIDITE, Engr. Ronald Villaverde. I was oriented regarding the time and hours I needed to incur

during my stay. My schedule was 7:30 am-5:00 pm during Monday, Wednesday and Tuesday
while 7:30 am -12:00 noon only during Tuesday and Thursday because I am still enrolled on other

subjects. I was so nervous that time because I’m not with my friends and I don’t know how to

approach his Secretary. As time passed by, I was able to boost my confident and feel myself

comfortably as a trainee.

During my training, at first, I feel so lonely because I don’t have anyone to talk with but,

I was so happy when I was able to meet and became friends with the other SEAIDITE instructors.

They were so approachable and nice. They never fail to let me feel that I’m just a trainee from

SABH Department rather they let me feel that I’m part of the SEAIDITE. Everyday, I routed to

different offices to give documents and let them affix their signatures. There were times where I

answered phone calls. Through this, I became confident and motivated to do my job while

developing and improving my interpersonal skills.

It was the second week of September when we were deployed in Bank of the Philippine

Islands located at College Avenue Campos Street, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. I was assigned in

the BPI Family Savings Bank or the Loans Department. During the first day, I was oriented

regarding the policies inside the bank and introduced the Head of the Loans like Mr. Patrick

Tamayao, the Head Officer of the Auto Loans and Mr. Samuel Matammu, The Head Officer of

the Housing Loans as well as the Account Officer of the whole BPI Family Savings Banks.

During my training, I was able to understand the essence of confidentiality because as we

filed and sorted documents, I knew a lot who had their loans at the BPI but I need to keep it

confidentially not only because they say so but because it is the right thing to do. I am a Marketing

student and not all that I learned in school is applicable in my OJT. Although my agency is not

connected to my course, I was still given a task wherein I can apply my learnings from accounting

because there were times where I was assigned to the Corporate Loans wherein I was asked to

compute the Bank Statements of different corporations, compute for debits and credits, also filed

and sorted their documents for the Audit and also checked if they completed all the requirements.

Aside from Auto, Housing and Corporate Loans, there were times where I was assigned at

the BPI-MS Insurance. I was once asked to photocopy the documents of a client and I was so

embarrassed because I didn’t know how to use it. Luckily, one of the employees there taught me
how to use it. There were times where we just sit back and relax because we do not have anything

to do because of two main reason either it is offline or they have a Board Meeting.

There are things that we can only learn when we experienced it. My OJT taught me how

to be independent. It was so memorable because I was able to understand the real meaning of work.

It also gives me the opportunity for a good future because as of now they are encouraging me to

submit my resume as soon as possible because it will be a great advantage for me since I already

know something about it. The only thing that I can suggest for future trainees is that, the University

should provide machineries that are commonly used in the offices like photocopy machines, fax

machines, scanners and many more because it is so hard to get in a fight without proper knowledge

and capabilities. Also, I suggest that the school should send trainees outside the Region like NCR

because it will provide them more opportunities for the future. All in all, this OJT was great and I

am thankful that I grabbed the opportunity because it helped me a lot for my future career.
