1.

In an air standard Otto cycle, the compression ratio is 7 and compression begins at 1bar
and 28O C. The maximum temperature of the cycle is 1100 OC. Find the temperature and
pressure of each point of the cycle, heat supplied per kg of air, work done per kg of air,
the cycle efficiency.

2. In a diesel cycle the air at the beginning of isentropic compression is 1.1 bar and 15 OC.
The pressure at the end of compression is 35 bar. The ratio of expansion is 5. Determine
(a) the temperature at the cardinal points of the cycle (b) work done per kg of air and air
standard efficiency.

3. An air standard dual cycle has a compression ratio of 16 and compression begins at
1.013 bar, 50°C. The maximum pressure is 70 bar. The heat transferred to air at constant
pressure is equal to that at constant volume. Estimate the temperatures at the cardinal
points of the cycle and the cycle efficiency.

5. The following data refers to a single cylinder four stroke petrol engine

Compression ratio=5.6
Mechanical efficiency =80%
Brake specific fuel consumption=0.37kg/kwhr
Calorific value =44,000kj/kg
Adiabatic index of air =1.4
Find i) brake thermal efficiency ii) indicated thermal efficiency iii) air standard efficiency
iv) relative efficiency with respect to indicated thermal efficiency and v) relative
efficiency with respect to brake thermal efficiency.
