Title/Focus

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Understand the technique of shooting a soccer ball.
2. Apply the skills of shooting a soccer ball in a drill and activity.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
 Soccer balls
 Cones
 I-pad (for attendance & connect)

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
 Meet in fitness room
Do attendance & announcements

Explain to the class that today we will have special leaders (Lisa, Kiera, Melissa) 10 min
We will be on our best behavior for these helpers as they are the teachers for the
day!

Body Time
Warm up I will let our class leaders decide what they will do for a warm
up.

They chose a shorter run, but ran dynamics as a class.


One student led the dynamics while the other 2 helpers
set up. 7 min

After warm up we came together and the 3 helpers


explained how to shoot a soccer ball. They gave a
demonstration to the class and explained when it is
important to shoot the ball.
Lightning They will come up with 1 drill 15 min

The drill they came up with was called lightning.


They split the class into 2 groups. (Each group doing the same
drill on a different net)
One person would start in net and the rest of the group lined

up. 1 soccer ball was in play, the shooter had to take a shot at
the net, if they missed the net they were eliminated. If they shot
and the goalie made a save, they became the goalie. If they
scored they would go to the back of the line.

I found this game ran pretty smooth. No one ended up getting


eliminated which was interesting!
It was great because the leaders ended up adjusting the drill as
they went. In one situation the shooter would take too long
with the ball so they made a count down rule where they had to
shoot within 10 seconds. Another adjustment they made was
how close to the goalie they could shoot. At the start some
shooters would dribble the ball all the way to the goal line. The
leader decided to put down a cone and have them shoot before
the cone.

World-cup They will come up with 1 game applying the practiced skill.

They brought the group together after the drill and gave
instruction. For the next game they played world cup. Everyone
had to pick a partner. Using the big soccer nets there is one ball
in play. Each partner is a team and against every other group. 18 min
The objective was to be the first to score a goal with your
partner. You do not want to be the last group standing.
This went very well, only 1 team scored within the first 5
minutes. The other teams battled out for a very long time!
There were lots of shots made, just great saves by the goalie!
