INSTRUCTIONS

2. The question paper is divided into different unit and parts. The number of questions to be
attempted and their marks are indicated in each unit and parts.
3. The candidates should not write the answer beyond the prescribed limit of word; failing
this, marks will be deducted.
4. Write the correct answer on the Answer Sheet by using BLUE BALL POINT PEN only.
5. Candidates are directed that they should not write (answer) out side the border line in
every page. Answer written out side the border line will not be checked by the Examiner.
6. If there is any wrong information filled by the candidate or any marking as identification is
done or any misbehave is made, then his candidate for the entire test series shall be rejected
by the ZONE TECH, for which students will be liable.
7. Please write answers only in the prescribed space of booklet. Do not write any mark of
identify inside the Answer script (including Paper for rough work) i.e. Name, Address,
Telephone number, Name of God etc. or any irrelevent words other than the answer of
question. Such act will be treated as unfair means.

PART – A Marks – 40
Note : Attempt all the twenty questions. Each question carries 2 marks. Answer should not exceed
15 words.

Q.25 A rectangular cross section of width 250 mm and depth 400 mm is subjected to a bending moment of
150 kN–m and a shear force of 75 kN. Then determine the bending stress and shear stress in a fibre
which is present 150 mm above neutral axis of section.

Q.33 Draw neat sketch of plate girder and explain different types of web stiffners ?
Q.34 A tapered rectangular bar of length L is having constant thickness and varying width (width at one
end is B1 and at other end is B2). If this bar is subjected to a tensile force "P" then determine total
elongation of bar. Modulus of elasticity is "E".
Q.35 A compound steel column consisting of 2 ISHB 400 place at 320 mm centres, carries a total axial load
of 2500 kN. Minimum slenderness ratio of the compound column is 30 width of the flange of one
ISHB section is 250 mm and its minimum radius of gyration is 51.6 mm. Design a suitable single flat
lacing 20 mm diameter single rivet is used to connect the lacing to the column. Rivet capacity need
not be calculated.

Q.36 What are moment area theorems?
A simply supported beam of length 10m is subjected to a udl of 10 kN/m. Then determine the
deflection at mid span and slope at supports by using moment area theorems.

earth pressure theory.
(b) For given soil profile determine the total active thrust per unit length and its location.

(ii) A 8 m thick clay layer is drained at both top and bottm. The ultimate consolidation settlement for
a given loading is 248 mm. If settlement of 99.2 mm take place in 4 years then determine.
(a) Degree of consolidation achieved in 4 years.
(b) Time required to achieve 60% degree of consolidation.
(c) Total settlement in 5 years.
(d) Permeability of soil if coefficient of volume compressibility is 4.766 × 10 –4 m2/kN.
