According to Tobin, 1983, computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to utilize

computers and related technology efficiently, with a range of skills covering levels from elementary use to
computer programming and advanced problem solving. Computer literacy can also refer to the comfort
level someone has with using computer programs and other applications that are associated with computers.
Another valuable component is understood the computers work and operate. The arguments for computers
in classrooms are primarily vocational or practical. They are based on assumptions that computers will be
pervasive in the workplace of the future, or that they are soon going to be ‘everywhere’ by Goodson. And
according to Watkins, 1982 with more interaction between computers and technology (audio, Video,
communications etc.), rapid changes in technology make it very difficult to predict the next five years.
Computer literacy projects have support in many countries because they conform to general political and
economic principles of those countries public and private organizations.

Each individual have their will to choose the skills they wanted to enhance. It may vary to
their peer influence, sources of income, hobbies and interest. Normally it is dictated by the norm
and resources surround them.
With the skills we have, it leads us to our future. The ever changing and upgrading essential
needs of people extends to the usage of technologies. As the national system is gone automated,
this program aims to enhance the computer literacy of the willing participants while enhancing the
physical environment of computer laboratory as part of their brigade this year. the program is also
aligned with this year theme “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”, as the program
will be part of a simple step towards a strong literate country upon helping illiterate individuals
while helping to improve the physical structure of the computer laboratory afoot progressive
school.
The program is handled by Mr. Bryan D. Pachica and was supported by the ICT
coordinator, Ms. Leila T. Forio and Brigada Eskwela coordinator, Mr. Jessie F. Ferias. With the
approval of School Principal II, Mrs. Germeline M. Casao the program started last 20, Monday in
the month of May. The said program was participated with some willing students and parents that
are excited to take part in Brigada.
The five day sessions have a different and unique experience as not all of the participants
are in the same level of literacy in computer. Some are already skilled but still willing to participate
in the program and been assisting others who in need. The first day was consumed in identifying
first which item and items can be disposed and while familiarizing with the technology they dusted
the units. They enjoy the short but informative experience and willing to attend the next session.
The following sessions opened a computer software experience as the participants explore the
Microsoft Word. They able to manipulate the functions of each ribbons and tool bars. Some others
hesitate and find difficulties in using the mouse but been comfortable after few minutes of usage.
As the days goes by, they are already familiar and comfortable in using the software. And
the arrangement of the units needed to be realigned to have a comfortable and spacious area for
the students that will use the laboratory. With the help of experienced electrical installation men,
the participants know the installation process and how to setting up the units. The last and final
touches are being done with the help of other faculties.
