Material Recovery Facility(MRF) Policy

RATIONALE

Lorenzo Tan National High School is a public secondary school that the students thought that as
human beings we deserved to protect our environment to sustain our future generation by taking good
care of things endowed by our Creature.

LTNHS as a public institution responds to the call around the globe to save and protect our
Mother Earth through solid waste management.

The program aims to develop a school family of caring and committed stewards of God’s
handwork. This solidifies the effort with support actions towards a solid waste free, orderly and safe
community.

The MRF school committee was formed guided by R.A. 9003 also known as Philippine Ecological
Waste Management Act of 2000, R.A. 9512 an act to promote environmental awareness through
environmental education and R.A. 9729, an act mainstreaming climate change into government policy
formulations establishing the framework strategy and program on climate change.

The committee is headed by school principal with the support of the Head teacher, Master
teachers, TLE and Science teachers both in Junior and Senior High School, canteen –in charge, SSG
adviser, and SSG governor.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

The LTNHS Solid Waste Management Program aims to impart in the students, parents, faculty
and staff the love for God’s creation- the Mother Earth. The program aims to:

1. strengthen the values of responsible stewardship, service, commitment, simplicity,


gratitude, cleanliness and orderliness.
2. provide models from where good segregation practices can be developed.
3. provide pertinent information on the conditions of the world resulting from abuse of
resources.
4. develop habits and practices in school where conservation of resources and segregation of
waste can be intensified.
5. ensure that the activities are aligned with the LGU and laws on environment.
6. determine the strength and weaknesses of LTNHS Solis Waste Management practices and
the practices of students, teachers and staff
7. provide measure to ensure the continuing growth of students and get their committed
participation of the policy.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

With the full implementation of LTNHS Solid Waste Management Program, the students, faculties,
and support staff are expected to:

1. sustain Earth friendly habits and practices while in school, off campus activities, barangays and
at home.
2. implement activities and program to the optimum
3. manifest the four principles of SWMP
4. coordinate with the LGU and the school consignors to ensure that SWMP practices are
observed.
5. show positive attitudes toward feedback as evidence by their willingness to implement
recommendation to improve their habits and practices.
6. integrate the importance of the Solid Waste Management Program and environment friendly
practices in the curriculum and co-curricular activities through working with the subject
teachers, advisers and SSG.

Policies on Solid Waste Management Program

1. Segregation of Bio and Non-biodegradable materials started at each room before 10:00 A.M.
Monday to Friday.
2. Waste depositing time to assigned MRF will be everyday from 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.
3. Senior High School schedule delivery of waste to MRF will be done weekly accompanied by
respective adviser, while Junior High School is as follow:

Monday - G-7 Charity, G-8 Hope, G-9 Obedience, G-10 Courtesy

Tuesday - G-7 Honesty, G-8 Courage, G-9 Peace, G-10 Sincerity

Wednesday - G-7 Purity, G-8 Loyalty, G-9 Confidence, G-10 Humility

Thursday - G-7 Love, G-8 Perseverance, G-9 Fidelity, G-10 Simplicity

Friday - G-7 Integrity, G-8 Faith, G-9 Prudence, G-10 Generosity

4. Non-biodegradable and recyclable materials will be delivered to MRF every Monday,


Wednesday, and Friday(MWF) while bio- degradable will be done every Tuesday and
Thursday(TTH).

Roles and Functions

A. Classroom Advisers:
 Check the trash cans, facilitate the segregation process
 Supervise the delivery of waste to MRF
B. Non-Classroom Advisers:
 Monitor, check, assist, supervise the cleanliness of the school ground and other school
areas
C. Student Supreme Government(SSG)
 Monitor the late comers. Let those late comers to clean the toilet, pick some of the trash
for 5-10 minutes.
D. On Canteen Waste: Food suppliers must:
1. Bring with them all their waste when they go home
2. Use gloves, tongs, food containers with cover
3. No sale of junk foods, soft drinks and other related unhealthy and un prescribed foods

INNOVATIONS

1. Empty boxes - use as organizer


2. Styrofoam and metal - use as solar system model
3. Empty plastic bottles - use as chandeller / lampshade
4. Styrofoam glass - use as rain gauge
5. Disposable plastic glass - use as Christmas decoration
6. Empty tin can - use as flower pot
7. Styrofoam ball - use as Earth model
