UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS Chepauk, University Building Madras-600 005, 17th December, 1953. Books are as important for the teaching of Music as for teaching any other subject. At present a lot of time is wasted by the music teacher in the class room by writing musical exercises and. compositions on the black board. This time could usefully be spent by the Teacher in actual teaching if pupils are provided with books. There is no guarantee that children copy the songs written in notation on the black board correctly. Music books are a necessity in the interest of the speedy and orderly progress of the pupils. The present book gives the lessons in Abhyasa gana upto ihe stage of Varnas. The book is properly graded and well printed. (Sd.) P. VENKATESA IYER, Tiruchirapalli, 7th December, 1952. Music education being associated with the sense of hearing has been traditionally orally taught, generally learnt sung and practised. It may be said that after with the availability of printing press facilities, music education has progressed. Now a days when the principle is to know ‘easily and experience quickly, it is indispensable to publish book suitable to teach subjects quickly and by self learning. In view of such a need “GANAMRUTHA BODHINI” authored by Sangeetha Vidwan A.S. Panchapakesan is a rare treasure chest for music learners. The writer has fixed suitable symbol for each subject and has shown all of them for easy comprehension by even beginners in music education. I believe that this will be useful to all. (Sd.) Alathur V. VENKATESA IYER PREFACE Some years ago music education was not widespread, where- ever we see it is music filled every home. People are seen leer- ning or desiring to learn music. The root cause for all this is the publishing of books for easy universal understanding of Sangee- tha sastras, methods of music teaching and writing songs with notation by Sangeetha Vidwans like Professor Shri P. Samba- moorthy, Shri K.V. Srinivasa Iyengar. Following them with the past eleven years of experience of teaching in Mylapore Rasika Ranjani Sabha Music School, I have.complied this book for easy learning by music students of lessons from Saptha Swaras progressively upto Swarajathis and notes. I express my humble regards and hearty thanks to Sangeetha Kalanidhi Shri. 7.L. Venkatarama Iyer for his foreword, to Sangeetha Vidwan Professor Shri P. Sambamoorthy, Sangeetha Vidwan Alathur Shri V. Venkatesa Iyer, and Shri N. Natesa lyer, Hon. Secretary R.R. Sabha for their commendation of this book. I am obliged for ever to office bearers of Rasika Ranjani Sabha for encouraging me to write this book. A.S. PANCHAP/ KeSA IYER MELAKARTHA RAGAS SUDDHA MADHYAMAM 1. Kanakangi 2. Rathnangi 3.
