The past continuous and continuous forms, in general, are used with action verbs such
as talk, drive, play, etc. The continuous form is not used with stative verbs such as
'be', 'seem', 'taste', etc. Some stative verbs can be used as action verbs so there are
some exceptions. For example, 'smell' - It smelled good. (stative verb) / He was
smelling the roses when she walked by the window (action verb.)
a. To indicate that one action was in progress when another action occurred.
b. To indicate that two actions were progress simultaneously.
c. To indicate an action that happened at a certain time in the past.
Nominal form :
a. Affrimative : S+ was / were + Complement
b. Negative : S + was/ were + Complement
c. Was/were + S + Complement ?
Verbal form :
a. Affrimative : S+ was / were + Verb(ing) + Complement
b. Negative : S + was/ were + not + Verb(ing) + Complement
c. Was/were + S + Verb(ing) + Complement ?
