1 Introduction

Concord Corporation Pte Ltd has been awarded the contract for installation of
electrical system that includes low voltage electrical distribution system, standby
electricity supply system, emergency lightings system, lighting and small power
system, lightning protection system, security system and communication system.
The electrical system will have the provision of back-up supply in the event of a
power failure and incorporates energy saving features.

The document describes the Method Statement for the LV Electrical Installation,
lighting installation, bracket supporting systems installations, Main switchboard,
UPS, DBs, SBs, Isolator, SSO, lighting and the Delivery and Installation of the LV
sub-mains and final circuit cables in all the equipment and surface Buildings, as well
as the shaft, escape staircase, cable gallery that including the connecting cable
gallery constructed by others at Rangoon Cable Entry Shaft.

The electrical installation works for the main tunnel, and adits (including adit
connecting to Holland Ventilation Shaft) will be covered in another Method Statement
for Tunnel electrical installation.

3. Scope of work

CCPL details scope of works for this project will be contractually based on the
items listed in the contract documents.

In general, CCPL scope of works will be the following:

 Install Cable Tray and Conduit

 Equipment Installation

 Install Lighting, SSO and Isolator

 Cable Laying

 Termination

 Loop Testing

 Install Supporting System

 Install Cable Ladder and Conduit

 Lighting system

4. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED

4.1 EQUIPMENT DELIVERY

 Work areas at site shall be accessible and minimum clearance space is


allowed for at least two trucks clearance. Work areas and road surface shall
be cleared of all obstructions such as debris, stones & rocks and ready for
vehicle movement.

 The materials delivered and installed shall comply in accordance with the
relevant specifications as detailed in the approved material sample
submission.
 All the equipment / materials received on site shall be properly unloaded,
mobilised and stored in the designated area/staging area as per the safety
requirements.
 All the materials shall be taken to site only during the time of installation.
4.2 MANUAL HANDLING

1. From the unloading area outside each Ventilation Building, all equipment /
materials are manually delivered to the respective team of general workers
through designated delivery routes agreed with SKE & Construction.

The practices for safe lifting are:

a. Use mechanical lifting aids.

b. Do not attempt to lift load alone if is beyond the ability to lift alone. Take extra
care when lifting awkwardly shaped objects.

c. Proper personal protective equipment such as gloves and safety boots must
always be used to prevent injury such as cuts bruises or crushed toes.

d. Clear vision over the load.

e. If one does not have a clear vision over the load, don’t proceed. Get help
immediately.

f. When two or more people do lifting, a leader should be appointed to ensure


that the lifting operation is co-coordinated.

g. The workers should follow these lifting procedures:

 Keep the back straight.

 Tuck the chin in.


 Position the feet correctly - generally one foot behind and the other alongside
the object pointing in the direction of movement after lifting.
 Bend the knees.
 Get firm grips using the whole hand and not the fingertips.
 Now start pushing up with the legs thereby using the strongest set of muscles
and using arm muscle to carry the load.
 Keep the load close to the body and slowly carry down from the entrance
stairs to concourse landing.

The materials used for the installation works shall be in compliance to those
approved in material schedule. The following are the materials used for the electrical
installation:

 Cable tray, ladder and accessories.

 Conduit and Accessories.

 Threaded rod, angle bar, unistrut, bolts, nuts and accessories.

 Light Fittings and accessories.

 Cables, glands, lugs, cable markers and cable ties.

 Warning sign, label plates and other accessories if necessary.

 Scaffold components

 Scissor Lift

 Ladders

The following are the equipment’s / tools that will be used for the installation work.

 Drilling machine c/w masonry bit (LEW inspected / endorsed).

 Scaffolding / staging as per relevant safety gear.

 Common hand tools.

 Personal Protective Equipment (such as helmets, task light, ventilation


fan, vests, goggles, Safety harness)

 Portable cutting tool (LEW inspected / endorsed).

 Hand drill, Torch light, First aid box, Loudhailer, etc.,

5. INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

5.1 SITE SURVEY AND PREPARATION

Before the actual commencement of installation of the installation works, the


following survey and preparation works are carried out:

 Proper access road and spaces is required for our installation works.

 For the installation works listed below, confirm and approved construction
drawings are the prerequisite for our installation works.

 For the installation of panels and DBs, certain architecture & structural
completion is required. For example, structural inspection clearance,
architecture defect clearance, completion of painting works & etc. this is to
reduce the possibility of the damage to panels.

 For the installation of luminaries at high level, completion of roof is required


and the structural inspection clearance is required to ensure the structural is
safe to complete with the installation.

 For the installation of conduit & trunking works, the requirement is the opening
reserved for the penetration. For the concealed items, brick wall is required to
be completed and confirm safe to proceed with cutting and hacking the glove
line.

 Trenches (If have) & area required by cable routing should be clear from any
debris, watering, construction waste and any obstruction. For the cable
installed underground, others services which will be installed around that
particular area need to be completed in order to avoid the damage to the
cable. For the cable installed within the cable supporting system, protection on
this cable will be required by whoever is working around the corner, for
example, protect the cable will plywood or canvas will doing welding or cutting
job on top of it.

 A requirement for the cable termination is the installation completion of the


Main Switchboards, DBs, SBs etc.

 Requirements for the installation of MCT will be the completion of cable laying
works.

 For the sealing up of wall & floor penetration for cable support, complete
installation of tray / ladder is required.

5.2. INSTALLATION OF PANELS, DBS AND SBS


 To make sure that the entire installation is in conformance and in
accordance with the design intent of the project for the Electrical and Low
Voltage System in addition to the specification and as per approved shop
drawings and comply.
 Before beginning installation in any area, examine all parts of the adjoining
works into which applicable work is to be placed. Should any condition be
found which will prevent the proper execution of the work, installation shall
not proceed in that area until such conditions are corrected by the contractor.
 Mount single DB at 1800mm from finish floor level to top of equipment,
unless shown otherwise on drawing / schedules.
 Ensures that clearance in front of switchgear is not less than 600mm, or as
indicated.
 Deploy sufficient workers for delivery and installation of the panels / DB / SB.
 Ensure the workers must be use proper tools.
 Firstly mark up the location of the anchoring points and check the level with
water split ruler.

 Drill the anchoring location by using electrical hammer drill and install with
suitable size of anchor bolts. If the panel installed at area which is self-
standing, custom make supporting frame will be required.

 Install the Panels / DB on the anchoring points and fasten with suitable size
of bolt & nuts.

 After installation of Panels / DB at actual locations and ensure proper


alignments.
5.3. INSTALLATION OF TRANSFORMERS

 References are made to the attached manufacturer’s Transport, storage and


erection guide.
 To install the equipment’s by using the proper tools
 To drill the floor according to the mounting position of the panel layout.
 The transformers mounting positioned according to the room layout.
 Positioned the first transformer to it final position. Move the second
transformer and align with the first transformer.
 Anchor fasteners & bolt of two panels together using the bolt provided.
 Ensure that the bolts do not hit the structural re bars.

 The process will be repeated for all subsequent cubicles.

 Ensure the area is well ventilated and free from explosive or corrosive gas or
vapours.
 Check the transformer nameplate and verify that it is the correct KVA,
frequency, line and load voltage for the application.
 Mount the transformer securely.
 Connect the transformer primary and secondary according to the wiring
diagram on the nameplate.
 Request for inspection and get ready for hand over.

5.4. INSTALLATION OF SWITCHES, SSO AND ISOLATORS

 Check the location of the switches and isolator according to the construction
drawing. Ensure on the type of the fittings is suitable to be used at that area.

 Mark up the location of switches and isolator to a standard height of 1500mm


from finishing floor level to top of switches, SSO & isolator.

 Switches at the foyer area, reception area, control room and those ID areas
are required to be concealed mount.

 Check the ceiling height at that area, mark up the groove line which need to
hack to conceal the conduit pipe & Knock Out box.

 Wet the brick at the area, cut the wall by using electrical cutting tools. Install
the concealed conduits pipe and rough touch up with cement.

 Whereas for surface installation method, drill a M6 holes on the wall and
fasten the fixtures with wall plug or anchor bolts.

 Lastly, Fix the fixture and terminate the cable into it.

 Surface mounted fixtures and fittings should be pre-installed and checked for
alignment, fixing etc, after primary and secondary wall finishes and prior to
final wall finish.
 Engraved adhesive labels shall be provided for all switch outlets and switch
plates.
 All unused openings shall be closed.

5.5. INSTALLATION OF EXIT LIGHTS

 The exit light may be installed as either a ceiling or wall mounted fitting.

 The light’s detachable, mounting bracket makes installation easy.


 To install the exit light, please follow the steps below:
 Remove mounting bracket from the body of the exit light.
 If wall mounting exit light, drill two holes (between 4-6mm in diameter), in the
‘U’ shaped niches in the rear of the mounting Bracket, and cut out the cable
access hole also (accessible behind supply cover).
 Mark four holes in the ceiling for ceiling mounting, or two holes in the wall for
wall mounting, and then install the mounting bracket using the appropriate
fasteners (not included).
 Install the base of the exit light fixture to the mounting bracket and check its
levelness using a level bar.
 Strip and connect the mains cable, using a screwdriver.
 Secure the mains cable with the tape.
 Please note:
• The un-switched Active wire connects to the terminal marked A.
• The Neutral wire connects to the terminal marked N.
• The Earth wire connects to the terminal marked.
 Check that the stripped wire ends are completely inserted into the terminal
block and no bare conductors are exposed. With multi-strand conductors,
ensure that all of the strands are twisted together before inserting them into
the terminal block. You must also protect the mains cable with a grommet,
gland or bush where it passes through the cable entry hole.
 Install the desired decals onto the diffuser(s) ensuring that the top and bottom
of the decal(s) have been inserted into the groove found on the diffuser.
 Remove the locking screw and rubber cover (found in the mounting bracket)
and slide the body of the exit light onto the rails of the bracket.
 Note: Before fitting the body to the mounting bracket, ensure the LED lamp is
correctly installed.
 Push the body into position until it fits snugly and use the locking screw to
ensure the body of the exit light is secured to the mounting bracket.
 Use the rubber cover to fill the screw hole.
 Connect the exit light to the mains and check the operation of the fitting to
ensure that the installation was successful. When powered up, allow a few
minutes to give the battery a small charge, then press the manual test button
located on the side of the fitting. When the test button is held down for a few
seconds, the exit lamp should light up and stay ON until the test button is
released.

5.6. INSTALLATION OF LIGHT FITTINGS

 Light fitting will be installed using platform ladders and mobile scaffold.

 Ensure that the wall / ceiling are plastered and painted according to the
builder’s requirement.

 Prior to anchor installation; mark up the anchorage points of the equipment.

 With the luminaire in its open state and the lamp and diffuser removed; install
the housing of fixture.

 After checking the alignment of the fixture, tighten all the nuts to secure the
housing, terminate the cable and return the lamp and diffuser.
 Continue with the installation for the next fixtures to ensure the distance
between the light fittings is in standard distance and level.

 After the completed installation of light fittings, terminate the cable to the DB
and check the lux density of lighting by using lux meter.

Pole mounted lighting installation procedure:

 Lift the light pole into position over the installed anchors.
 Ensure that the base plate is resting on all four washers.
 Install washer, lock washer and hex nut. Plumb and level the pole and tighten
all anchors.
 Install clamp on pole.
 Remove access panel on luminaire arm, Retain screws and washers.
 Using a hex key socket with extension, install luminaire to clamp.
 Connect wiring to connection terminals in the luminaire. Refer to wiring
diagrams.
 Install the top cap on the pole (shipped with the pole). If the unit has a twist
lock receptacle, assemble the receptacle and the top cap and connect wiring
before installing the top cap. Install provided shorting cap or photo‐electric
control.
 Replace the access panel on the luminaire arm.
 Install the nut covers or the cover plate.

 Check the lux density of lighting by using lux meter.

5.7. INSTALLATION OF CONDUITS

 To carry out installation work in accordance with approved shop drawings,


CSD drawings and specifications.

 Drill saddle fixing hole along the reference line and space it according to the
approved shop drawings.
 Ensure that the cable support is in correct location & elevation.
 Secure the conduit on the conduit bender vice clamp to bend or cut to the
required length.
 Thread the ends of the conduit using threading tools.
 Use a file to remove burrs from the cut edges.
 Insert the nylon plug into the drill hole and secure the bar saddle.
 Place the conduit over the bar saddle and secure it.
 Install and tighten all securing screws.
 Branch out the conduit from trunking / tray or terminate to the SBs or DBs
according to the typical installation drawings. Run the conduit in line with the
building structure diagonal runs will not be accepted. Run the conduit up to
the wall and terminate at the wall light, isolator, switches or outlets.
 Request for authority to inspect installed items.
5.8. INSTALLATION OF CABLE SUPPORTING SYSTEMS, CABLE
TRAY & LADDER
 Ensure that the ceiling or soft-fit are plastered and painted according to
builder‘s requirement.
 To make sure that the entire installation is in conformance and in accordance
with the design intent of the project for the Electrical and Low Voltage System
in addition to the specification and as per approved shop drawings and
comply with Local and International Standards.
 Adhere to the drawings as closely as possible.
 Before beginning installation in any area, examine all parts of the adjoining
work onto which applicable work is to be placed. Should any condition be
found which will prevent the proper execution of the work, installation shall not
proceed in that area until such conditions are corrected by the contractor.
 Cable Tray / Trunking shall be stored on site under cover in dry, well
ventilated storage facilities.
 Where sizes of Cable Trays / Trunking are not detailed on drawing then tray
shall be adequately sized to support the cables without bunching and some
reserve margin shall be allowed in size and weight be loaded.
 All routes are chosen to allow ease of access to all cables when installed. All
horizontal cables are to be set around all vertical rising services as necessary.
Ensure sufficient clearance from soffit for every installation.
 Earth continuity conductors shall be provided across gaps in all Cable Tray /
Trunking runs and bolted connections.

 Support shall be by means of steel brackets installed at intervals necessary to


provide a rigid fixing and to ensure that deflection does not exceed 5mm mid
span of support when fully loaded. Treatment of cut edges as per cut edges to
be included. Supports for Tray / Trunking (spacing) shall be as per standard
practice and manufacturer's recommendations.
 Additional support shall be provided where the Cable Tray / Trunking changes
direction or cables drop out of the cable tray. Dome headed bolts, nuts and
washers of finish suitable to the tray shall be used between trays.
 Suspension sets comprise threaded hanger rods together with nuts and
locking washers, supports channel hold down clips all of which shall have a
galvanized finish. Any cut ends supports, rods, etc, must be corrosion
protected by use of galvanized or equal. No extended rods to be left.
 The cable tray shall be installed with a 40mm minimum space between the
structure and the tray.
 Ensure that the copper links are used at all joints.
 All cable shall be securely fixed to the tray, work and the complete installation
must be carried out in a neat and workmanlike manner without crossovers.
 Cables on face-up horizontally fixed tray must be secured by use of the tie
wraps where not in view. If cables are bunched or single cables greater than
25sq mm are installed, cleats or metal straps shall be used.
 Request authority to inspect the installation of cable support.

5.9. INSTALLATION / LAYING OF CABLES


 Carry out installation work in accordance with relevant approved shop
drawings and specifications. Attention shall be paid to Technical specifications
and site safety requirements at all times.
 Ensure that area is free to any obstruction prior to execution of works
 Set up pre – fabricated steel cable stand on a solid and level ground
 Lift the cable drum by using hydraulic jack fitted below the cable drum stand
 Provide suitable distance between ground level and cable drum, to enable
cable drum rolled without obstruction
 Check cable direction & pull cable from directions that required the least
tension
 Proceed cable pulling manually and with care until it reached the final
destination/termination points.
 Ensure adequate length is provided at the both ends of termination points
before cutting the cable.
 Ensure that cable tray / trunking / conduits are correct for installation of
electrical cables.

 Ensure that the cable rollers were in place and fixed properly.
 Cable pulling persons shall not stand on cable trays/trunking during cable
pulling
 Cables shall be aligned, arranged and dressed properly and fixed with
suitable approved cable ties.
If cable cannot be terminate immediately after installation, ensure cable kept
and secure properly and must inform OCC the new cable will not affect the
vehicle services.
 Until permanent cable tag is fixed, temporary marking of cable number shall
be provided at both ends with permanent marker/pen similarly.
 Repeat the same procedures as mention until all cable pulling/installation are
completed.
 Request for inspection and get ready for hand over

5.10. CABLE GLANDING AND TERMINATION

 Cables shall be terminated in accordance with industry standards.

 Training of cable end as straight as possible and fix cable to holding fittings.

 Cut cable leaving its part slightly extending from fitting terminal for being used
as cable core to be straightened.

 Stripping off the cable armouring and serving.

 Strip off cable sheath, cotton tape and filler.

 After straightening each core at a fixed distance and deciding the position of
terminal, cut off extra core, strip off insulation slightly longer than the length of
hole of terminal lugs with wire stripper.

 Insert terminal lug into conductive core and contact bond it with proper
crimping.

 Tape treating of the part cut off in sheath and armouring wit self-bonding tape
and stretching the tape around 1-2 times as long as the original one.

 When all treating have been finished, fit up the wire identification marker in
accordance to the label system as agreed with the main engineering-in-
charge.

 All necessary internal and external fittings and insulating materials shall be

and dismantling of glands can be achieved without the use of special tools.

 Earthing and labelling of cables shall be to the required standards as


specified.

 All joints used shall be appropriate to the size and type of cables with which
they are used for.

 All necessary measures to ensure safety in termination shall be deployed

 Use correct size and type of cable glands for individual cables.

 Enforce care on cable during peeling of insulation.

 Use correct size and type of lug when terminating into terminal block / MCB.

 Tidy cable inside the panel / equipment.

5.11. LABELLING

 Ensure use approved materials for label all the cables going in and out of
SBs, EDBs and isolators by attaching cable markers with the designated
abbreviation indicated in the drawings near to the termination point at both
ends.

 After completion of installation the cables follow drawing and ensure cable
labelling of end is similar.

 Internal QA/QC to ensure proper labelling for the cables.

5.12. LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM


 Carry out installation work in accordance with approved shop drawings and
specifications.
 Ensure that area is free to any obstruction prior to execution of works.
 Ensure that the lightning protection system materials are correct approved
materials.
 Ensure that the lightning support is in correct location & elevation.
 Saddle fixing hole along the reference line and space it according to the
approved shop drawings.
 Place the copper conductor over the saddle and secure it.
 Install and tighten all securing screws.
 All roof conductors shall be secured with saddles at intervals not exceeding
900mm.
 Conductor crossing point shall be secured by using square clamp.

 Ensure that the support assembly is securely fixed in place.


 Insert the tapping screw into the drill hole and secure the saddle into the wall
by using wall plug.
 Place the copper conductor over the saddle and secure into the wall (vertical
saddle interval 500mm for each saddle).

Conductor tape saddles shall be fixed to the walls by Round-head 37.5mm x No. 8
brass wood screws and raw plugs, the saddles being spaced at not less than 1.00m
intervals. As an alternative the Contractor may cast pockets into the structural wall
and secure studs via vast resin adhesive once the form-work is removed.
Bi-metal connections shall be provided between aluminium and copper interfaces
and elsewhere as necessary to avoid electrolytic action.
Air terminations shall be formed and be of the type shown on the drawings.
Provide a network of conductor tape around the roof area of the building. This shall
be used to connect all down conductors, window cleaning track, cladding, spire,
structural reinforcing and all other exposed conductive metal parts to a common
potential.

Lightning Protection down Conductors

1. Provide down conductor tapes in locations as indicated on the approved shop


drawings.
2. Down conductors shall be either: Installed surface on the structure concealed
behind the cladding OR Reinforcing bars within the concrete structure.
3. Down conductor tapes shall terminate on to dedicated reinforcing bars which shall
be utilized as the final connection to earth via the pile foundations. The Contractor
shall include for supervising and testing the installation of the reinforcing bars
including all joints prior to the concrete being poured.
4. Down conductors to be connected at roof level to a common loop tape.
5. Provide horizontally mounted conductor tapes at levels indicated on the drawings.
These shall provide a common connection for all down conductors, structure,
cladding, steelwork and exposed metalwork.

 The system shall be tested for resistance to earth and electrical continuity of
earthing system.
 Request for inspection and get ready for hand over.

5.13. WALL OPENING

 Ensure PTW has been approved and obtained prior to commencement of works
inside the essential rooms
 Conduct a Site Survey to determine the existing condition. Where feasible, the
opening point will be made based on the existing services routing (i.e. the
reference point).
 Set out the location, size and quantity of the opening required accordingly.
 Before commencement of work, use canvas to cover the work area and
equipment nearby the proposed wall opening in order to prevent dust and debris
from entering during execution of work.
 Power tool such as hammer drill / chisel will be used to hack the wall opening.
Before hacking or drilling, use a concealed services detector to confirm that
there is no trunking/conduit obstruction and blockage within the walls/concrete.

 While the wall opening has been created, the respective services or cables will
be installed through the new opening.
 Upon completion of all installation works, seal all affected openings with
approved fire-stop compound.
 Clean-up the work area and clear of all debris upon completion of working order
to satisfy the handing over to the authorized person.

6. SAFE WORK PROCEDURE FOR WORKING AT HEIGHT

General

1. Work involves 2 meters or more shall have a valid PTW. A risk


assessment is required for work activity involves working at height.
Work Involves Using Ladder

 All platform ladders and A Frame ladders when in use especially near platform
edges must be held by other person or properly secured.

 When working with ‘live’ electrical installation, use good condition non-
conductive ladder.

 Ladder mounted against the wall shall have an inclination of 1 to 4 and land at
least 1 meter above the highest level of the structure.

 When working at height of 2 meters or more safety harness shall be used and
hook with safe secured point.

 Person shall face the ladder when ascending up or descending down.

 Both of the hands must have proper grip to the ladder vertical poles when
ascending and descending.

 Do not step on the top three rungs of the ladder.

 Person must have three point contacts when accessing and descending the
ladder.

 Defective ladder such as missing or damaged rungs, no rubber padding at its


footing, cracked, etc shall NOT be used.

 Self-made ladder shall not be allowed to be used at site.

1. Ladder shall be placed on flat and solid ground and NOT on slope terrain.

2. Ladder shall not be placed on boxes, scaffold, etc meant for extension of
height.

3. Portable aluminium ladders are advised to be used for low level work with
short duration.

4. Platform ladder with buddy system are allow to perform the installation
works.

5. Step ladders shall not be used when leaned up against vertical walls.

6. Ensure that a “buddy” system is in place when using the platform ladder
or A Frame ladder.

Work Involves Using Scaffolds

 No person shall access any scaffold without valid scaffold tag certified by
Scaffold Supervisor or scaffold tag which stated the scaffold is “Not safe
for use”, displayed at entrance of scaffold access.

 No one shall access or work on any damaged scaffold

 Anyone who found any sub-standards conditions on the scaffold, the


person shall immediately inform site supervisor or WHS officer /
Supervisor and DO NOT use the scaffold.

 No one is allowed to access or use the scaffold with tag “Not safe for use”
display at the entrance.

 All personnel shall use the proper access provided for ascending and
descending the scaffold.

 All person who work on scaffold comply with the following rules:

o Must wear safety harness


o Shall secure their safety harness on rigid anchorage point whenever
feasible
o Shall abide strictly with ‘Safe Working Load’ sign displayed on the scaffold
o Shall NOT leave any loose materials that are subject to fall, e.g. bolts and
nuts, tools, etc on the scaffold working platform
o Shall place loose materials e.g. bolts and nuts, working tools, etc in proper
container or tool box
o Shall NOT throw material from scaffold to below
o Shall NOT dismantle or modify any part of the scaffold

o Shall NOT remove any signs from the scaffold


 All personals must stand and work within the scaffold platform at all times.
Do not stretch out of the scaffold platform.

 All scaffolds must have equal levelled.


 All scaffolds should be used on the firm and level ground only.

 When the mobile scaffold is used, the caster wheels must be locked and
with outrigger extended.

 When shifting of scaffold is required, the following rules shall comply

o No person, material or equipment shall be left on the working platform or


elsewhere in the structure when motion.
o Ensure no overhead or ground obstruction when shifting
o Ensure adequate manpower involves in shifting
 Upon completion of using the mobile scaffold, the aforesaid scaffold shall
be kept in the location which

o Will not cause obstruction to the emergency escape routes or passenger


movement.
o Is positioned on firm and level ground with wheels of the scaffold always
locked
 When the scaffold is not going to be used further, dismantle the scaffold
and remove from site.
Work Involves Using Aerial Work Platforms

1. All aerial work platforms must be in good working conditions and have a
valid examination certification issued by Authorised Examiner prior to
using on site.

2. Only operators who completed training course on safe operation are


allowed to operate the aerial work platform.

3. Operators shall always operate the aerial work platform safety without
risks themselves and others.

4. Operator shall not abuse, ignore or override any safety devices of the
aerial work platform.

5. When operating the aerial work platform, persons who are standing on the
work platform must wear safety harness and secure to an anchorage point

within the platform and in additional with safety helmet and chin strap at
all times.

6. Ladders, hop ups or boxes must never be used on the platform to gain
extra height or reach.

7. Operator must stand firmly on the floor of the basket, and must not sit or
climb on the edge of the basket, or stand on mid-rails or top-rails or use
other devices for a work position.

8. Care must be taken not to exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL) when
working with tools and equipment from the aerial work platforms.

9. All hand tools must be secured used lanyard to prevent dropping while
working from the platform.

10. Working area of the aerial work platform must be barricaded.

11. When travelling the aerial work platform, the following measures must be
observed.

a. No ramps, trenches, holes or other ground obstructions lie in the path of


travel

b. The equipment is clear of overhead electrical cables, building projections


or other overhead hazards

c. When necessary deploy a banksman assist movement of the aerial work


platform

12. Prior to and during operation, the brakes must be set.

13. Ensure that the equipment is set on level and stable surface.

14. Aerial work platform must not be moved when the boom is in a working
position with personnel in the basket.

15. Avoid working near or passing by the live / energised lines.

16. Upon completion of using the aerial working platform, the aforesaid aerial
working platform shall be parked at the location which:

a. Will not cause obstruction to the emergency escape routes or movement


of the vehicles or human

b. Is on firm and level ground

c. Must be inoperative to prevent from unauthorised person to operate

Fall Protection

1. On all cases, all open edges of the platform shall be effectively


barricaded.

2. Openings on the floor shall be effectively covered with firm flooring,


otherwise with effective barricade to prevent from failing into it.

3. Where it is impractical to erect effective barricading to prevent person


falling from height, person working at the area must be issued with
suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent them from failing
from height.

4. The following are the appropriate PPE and safe work practices
recommended for all persons working at height in the prevention of falling.

a. Provision of proper foothold and handhold

b. Use of safety harness to restrict from reaching the opening edges or out
of the enclosure of the aerial working platform

c. When working at height above 2 metres, safety harness must be


anchored to secured points

Toe-board of at least 90mm in height shall be provided along the opening edges
or working platform of the scaffolds to prevent loose material from falling below.
