FOOD VENDORS ALONG PUBLIC AND PRIVATE


SCHOOL IN ROSARIO, CAVITE

INTRODUCTION

Street food is also known as the on- the -go food or drinks sold by a vendor, usually

sell in streets and some public places that are relatively inexpensive prices. It is often sold

from a portable food cart, food booth or food trucks.

In the Philippines street foods are known as tusok-tusok or in English term poke that

contributes a big part in the Philippine culinary culture, it showcased the Filipino talents

in cooking the unlikeliest and least palatable ingredients. Falling under to this category,

are deep fried and grilled street foods, eaten by pointed skewer and “poking” or sticking

and dip into your preferred sauce.

Filipino street food vendors often lack of potable water supply, garbage disposal and

sometimes a clean working environment making these street foods exposed to harmful

elements that may result in different illness like diarrhea hepatitis and even food

poisoning.

The local government cited that street food selling is a fast-growing business in our

country. They doesn’t issued sanitation permit for this kind of business because they do

not have permanent business addresses and it is difficult to monitor the hygiene of the

handlers in preparing, storing and serving the food most especially the personal hygiene

of the vendors.

Although street food selling provides source of nutrition and satisfaction, the

unconsciousness of the consumer to the danger of street foods.


Food safety awareness is important because it helps to protect customer from the

possibility of food borne illness it also helps to prevent consumers from risks of health

and effective way to keep you from possible deadly illness.

Background of the study

This study aims to assess the awareness of the customers about health and safety

awareness on how the street vendors selling street foods along public and private school

in Rosario Cavite

Considering on how they prepare the food that their selling to avoid the food

poisoning and can be exposed to harmful elements that can cause certain illness and how

they dispose the garbage that they use and cause littering in the area

This research give knowledge and useful information to the customers by

contributing safety awareness for the rules and regulation of the municipality of Rosario,

Cavite regarding to the knowledge and attitudes of street food vendors and customers for

safety awareness of the customers and food vendors.


Objectives of the study

The general objective of the study is to determine the street food vendors

awareness on health and safety of street foods along public and private schools in

Rosario, Cavite.

Specifically, this study will try:

1. To determine the demographic data of the street food vendor.

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Status

2. To determine the facility and equipment standard of the street food vendors.

3. To determine whether the street food vendor apply food safety practices.

4. To determine the level of awareness on health and food safety.
