INTRODUCTION

What is Communication?
COMMUNICATION is simply the act of transferring information from one
place, person or group to another.
There are a wide range of ways in which we communicate and more than one
may be occurring at any given time.
The different categories of communication include:
 Verbal Communication which includes face-to-face, telephone, radio or
television and other media.
 Non-Verbal Communication, covering body language, gestures, how we
dress or act, where we stand, and even our scent.
 Written Communication: which includes letters, e-mails, social media,
books, magazines, the Internet and other media. Until recent times, a
relatively small number of writers and publishers were very powerful
when it came to communicating the written word. Today, we can all write
and publish our ideas online, which has led to an explosion of
information and communication possibilities.
 Visualizations: maps, logos and other visualizations can all communicate
message.
Why Communication at work place be improved?
Good communication is one of the best ways to make sure everyone in your
team understands what is expected of them. Not only does it keep everyone
working towards the company’s overall goals, it helps to build trust and create a
more enjoyable place to work.
When communication isn’t working, it can cause confusion, frustration and a
lack of trust between different levels of the organization. At its worst, poor
communication can result in increased turnover, absenteeism and lower levels
of productivity.
How does communication increase productivity?
Effective communication is pivotal in increasing productivity because it directly
influences the behavior of the staff and the way they perform. It plays an
eminent role in getting things done which ultimately increases the department's
productivity.
PROBLEM: EMPLOYEES BEING INEFFECTIVE IN THE WORKPLACE
SOLUTION
SPECIAL NEED: MAKE A GOOD COMMUNICATION STRATEGY TO
IMPROVE EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY
1. SET COMMUNICATION STANDARDS
RATIONALE:
One of the best ways to improve workplace communication is to prevent
miscommunication. Start by establishing standards that explain accepted
communication practices and procedures. For example, the Google Code of
Conduct tells employees which practices are and aren’t accepted in the
organization and gives directions for communicating problems or concerns.
What is Ethical Communication?
Ethics in small groups refers to the moral aspects of group interaction. The
National Communication Association (NCA) states: “ethical communication
enhances human worth and dignity by fostering truthfulness, fairness,
responsibility, personal integrity, and respect for self and other.” Thus, ethical
communication in takes into account caring and responsibility for oneself and
the other group members.
 Truthfulness, accuracy, honesty, and reason are essential to the integrity
of communication.
 Endorse freedom of expression, diversity of perspective, and tolerance of
dissent to achieve the informed and responsible decision making.
 Strive to understand and respect other communicators before evaluating
and responding to their messages.
 Access to communication resources and opportunities are necessary to
fulfill human potential and contribute to the well being of families,
communities, and society. through communication methods, such as face-
to-face dialogue, email, printed literature and even non-verbal gestures,
body language and attitudes.
 Condemn communication that degrades individuals and humanity
through distortion, intolerance, intimidation, coercion, hatred, and
violence.
 Commit to the courageous expression of personal convictions in pursuit
of fairness and justice.
 Unethical communication threatens the quality of all communication and
consequently the well-being of individuals and the society in which we
live.

KEY RESULTS AREA:
EFFICIENT and EFFECTIVE EMPLOYEES
Effective, honest communication can bind employees together. If the staff are
talking with each other on the job, that's a major step towards building a good
team. Employees who look forward to talking with their colleagues are more
enthused about coming to work.
LESS MISUNDERSTANDINGS
Confusing instructions and unclear guidelines are bad for everyone. When
communicating with employees, managers have to be clear about what they
want and expect. That applies whether the communication is through meetings,
instructions, performance reviews or employee handbooks. If workers
understand their duties and responsibilities, everything flows more smoothly.
GOOD WORK ENVIRONMENT
Good communication is even more important if the workforce is diverse. With a
mix of races, nationalities, genders or faiths on the job, it's easy for people to
accidentally offend each other. If promotion and employee review rules aren't
clear, minority workers may feel they've been discriminated against.
Policies that clearly spell out how the company applies rewards and penalties
can clear things up. Clear guidelines telling employees how to treat each other
helps avoid unwanted conflict.

RECOMMENDATION:
When the information is not transferred correctly to the right people, there
might be some miscommunication and misunderstanding which can be a reason
for downfall of companies. When there is lack of effective communication in
the workplace, confusion is always present. Some employees think managers
said one thing, others think that they said something completely different. In
this case, how can everyone work for the same goal and increase the
productivity? It’s important to have a good communication system, so that
everyone understands what the goals are and can work towards them together.
For example, if you create a new Facebook promotion strategy for your
company, you should clearly communicate new tasks and goals with your
employees. If they don’t have a clear understanding of what they should exactly
do, such as posting, liking, sharing and so on, then your strategy will probably
end up in a mess.
2. EMPOWERMENT AND TRANSPARENCY
RATIONALE:
Another way that communication can improve productivity is with the help of
empowerment. If your employees have more information, they will feel more
empowered to complete their tasks with confidence and direction. Those
employees who have more information about specific tasks and know how to
complete them, are more motivated to get it done effectively. In addition,
according to the case study of HEC. prof. Charles-Henri. Besseyre des Horts, it
is proven that those companies that are transparent and employees have more
empowerment, are usually more productive.
