Advance Diploma of Engineering

Statement of Purpose
Gurjant Singh(gurjantsingh5434@gmail.com)

A self-motivated, curious and a passionate guy who believes in the saying “Succesful
engineering is all about understanding how things break and fail – Henry Petroski”
During my Higher Secondary education, I have always been fascinated by the computations
which I learned in the Physics subject The likingness of solving real-life problems using
mathematical equations in numerical problems has made me very keen and focussed towards
engineering practices that any engineering professional uses. I have always found myself
getting involved in experimenting with the mixing of materials in order to optimize its
properties. Such basic experiments had been done in an unprofessional manner but how
Material Science works; makes me strengthen my confidence and helps me focus my mind for
a good career in the coming future. I have done my senior secondary examination from ICSE
in March 2016 with A grade and higher secondary examination in Medical Stream from the
same education board in April 2018 with A grade. I have given my IELTS Exam on 1st
December/ 2018 and have scored 6.0 in Overall exam. I am a living resident of VPO Bhilowal
district, Amritsar, Pin Code:1435054, Punjab, India

I want to pursue an Advanced Diploma of Engineering to prepare myself for the Engineer
Associate Level. This level of engineering will help me to explore more about the engineering
practices done by an engineer in a professional and supportable environment. More calculations
will challenge me more to experiment and research with the materials and their behaviors. Five
years from now, I visualize myself as a capable associate engineer for a technical position at
one of the leading engineering companies. My interests include Engineering Drawings,
Statistical computations, Manufacturing processes and Behaviour of materials. My source
of inspiration for pursuing study related to Engineering Practices has been encouraged from
my father who is a farmer. During my childhood days, I have been introduced to so many
agricultural processes which involves nothing but engineering. What right amount of fertilizers
are required for which crop, such practices makes me learn more about it. My father was the
one whom I saw following the proper agricultural engineering in his fields and the reason
behind its accurate and precise working, which influenced me to pursue my course in
engineering diploma.

After completing this course, I will be able to :

1. Research and synthesize information, and apply judgement in engineering design and project
planning.
2. Interpret information and communication knowledge, ideas and procedure to a captive
audience.
3. Employ independent learning strategies to update own knowledge in the field and keep pace
with innovations in engineering techniques, industry trends and standards.
Although I am open to gain a variety of knowledge-based research at Australian Institute of
Advanced Studies, I am especially interested in what the Industry affiliation between the
institute and the Queensland Steel House Frames company has to offer as well as the research
done by Noel Higginbotham and his students on engineering projects such as RAAF F111
and FA18 Super Hornet projects with Tasman Aviation at RAAF base Amberley.
Studying some of the researches have given me a sense that Australian Institute of Advanced
Studies program of Advance Diploma of Engineering is a perfect match for my research
interests. My technical knowledge acquired beforehand will surely be distinctive and
advantageous to the overall engineering practices development at the institute.

Studying at Australian Institute of Advanced Studies will accomplish two main goals in my
life –“Studying what I am passionate about” and “Studying in the third most popular
destination for international students in the English-speaking world” Graduates from
Australian institutes are highly sought after due to the impressive international reputation of
the Australian education system. One of the most appealing aspects of Australia for
international students is the stress on scientific research. Australia is at the forefront of new
technology and innovations. Students who study in Australia can take advantage of the
country’s impressive technology and resources. International students are allowed to work up
to 20 hours per week while studying in Australia. This is a great opportunity for those who
want to earn money to offset living expenses during their stay, and for students who want to
gain work experience in their field of interest while they study.

I have tried researching for the courses that institutes provide in our country but the level of
expertise I am expecting for my professional growth is still lacking in India. The courses offered
by the program in Stress-Strain analysis, Designing are crucial for me to become a true
engineer. The subjects provided for entrepreneurship development are desirable addition for
my long-term goals. The institute has the masterminds of this field and studying under their
guidance will mold me into an individual who can be one amongst them. The institute also has

an excellent state of the art facilities and the multi-cultural environment has fascinated me to
be a part of this institute. I picked this institute because I wanted smaller class sizes and the
chance to establish close relationships with other students and my professors. I thrive in a
collaborative environment, and I relished the opportunity to engage with other students and
work together to complete projects.

This institute has world class training equipment facilities with modern hardware and software
for teaching and learning. As per the mentioned information, its theory rooms are equipped
with interactive projectors and e-classroom teaching which will let students learn in a very
interactive way. Hence, promoting the creativity among students. This institute has pathways
with the prominent universities such as SPC Group Brisbane and Cairns, University of the
Sunshine Coast and Southern Cross University in the country which makes it one of the
prestigious institutes among the country to get enrolled in for the graduate diploma in
engineering course.

Through my diploma studies, I expect to become and will work hard to be, a competent
engineer. After my studies, I will move back to my country and will serve it in a better way in
which it is lacking. With all the knowledge that I will be going to receive in those two years
assists me in grabbing secured technical positions as Design Draftsman, Engineering
Technician, Estimator, and other technical roles in any of the leading engineering
companies. The average salary for such positions in Australia ranges between 45K-60K dollars
which I can’t achieve in opting the same course in my country

Moreover money is not everything you can always have but what you do for others also counts.
I always believe that the noblest and kind thing you can do for others is ‘Sharing’. Therefore,
I won’t restrict my knowledge expertise to the company only. After returning to India, I will be
going to find more ways to share my knowledge with others or how I can add value to it.I will
use such practical measures in our fields to enhance sustainable farming Thus will increase the
production of organic crops in bulk quantity.

I hope to receive a favorable response to my application, thanking you for giving me this
opportunity to express myself.
