Assessment:
On Monday, September 16th I had my first interview with Megan Hubbard PA-C. We
had a phone interview that lasted about twenty minutes. During this time, I was able to ask her
questions regarding her profession and the clinic she works at. Megan is new to the profession of
physician assistants (PA) and works in a family practice clinic. I was able to connect with Megan
by her parents being my neighbors. Also, during the interview I was able to explain to Megan
more about what the Independent Study Mentorship (ISM) program entails. Megan seemed very
excited about the potential of mentoring me. I was very thankful for her willingness to let me
The PA profession is booming and the potential of shadowing someone new and fresh to
the field excites me. During the interview, Megan also expressed some problems she faces in her
clinic. These could work to be ideas for my original work proposal. Megan works at a clinic very
close to me, which would be great for commuting back and forth. Mentoring Megan would be
awesome because I would be exposed to many different aspects of the medical field due to her
specialization in Family Practice. After talking with Megan on the phone and emailing back and
forth I would love to be able to sit down and discuss a plan for the year.
This interview was my first ever phone interview; overall, I had mostly positive opinions
about interviews over the phone. I still believe that talking to a person face to face will always be

the better option. However, in today’s society everyone is running around busy so having the
option of phone interviews is a beneficial factor. Some positives of phone interviews are that
they are flexible, less stressful and more comfortable as compared to in-person interviews.
In my phone interview, I tried not to be nervous by reminding myself that there was
nothing to worry or stress about. I was simply talking to a business professional in my desired
career to gain more knowledge on the occupation. Megan had an awesome bubbly persona about
her that made me feel more confident and curious about her field of practice. I was able to ask
her questions about physician assistant school, the clinic, how she likes working and so much
more. I also was able to explain what the class I am taking is and help give her some background
All in all, my phone interview was fantastic! I was able to get to know Megan more, learn
more about her roles as a physician assistant, and give her some information on me and this
class. At the end of the interview, Megan expressed her willingness to mentor me which was the
icing on the cake. So for my following informational interviews I plan to interview with two
physician assistants in different specialties to see if their roles change drastically or not.
