Guatemala Reflection

What did you like about this project?

Something I really liked about this project was being able to choose which
subject within the Guatemala unit we wanted to focus on. This allowed me to choose a
subject that I was more interested in, which in the end made me more motivated to
learn about it and do a better job on my presentation.

What were some of the most interesting discoveries you made while working on
this project?
I focused on popular foods, music, and markets in Guatemala, and overall it was
very interesting to me to see how different their culture is from ours in America. It made
me think about how even though we are all humans, we are so very different within our
lifestyles. Specifically, one thing within their culture that interested me was their music.
They love to play the marimba and create music with that instrument but in America, we
have gone more into electronic music-making. Seeing that there are still places and
people who use the original form of making music was very interesting for me to learn
and think about.

What was the most difficult part?

The most difficult part of this project for me was writing my script in Spanish.
Writing in Spanish is a skill that I have yet to master. There are so many rules when
writing which resulted in it taking so much more time and precision.

What would you like to learn more about?

Something I would like to learn more about is their daily lifestyles. For example,
their main jobs, forms of transportation, family life, struggles/challenges that they
struggle with daily, etc. I always find it interesting to compare another person's lifestyle
to the one I am used to and seeing how different or similar they are.

What would you suggest to do differently next time?

One thing that I would suggest we do differently is practicing our presentations
before presenting them with peers. We were given a small chance, but most of us at
that certain time still needed to work on finishing our projects, so we weren’t ready to
present with our finished script and slideshow. I know I could have done better with my
presentation if I would have been able to practice it and get critiques from my peers
before.
