I. Introduction (rationale, background information on the AA program)

As a result of a comprehensive review of the undergraduate music


programs, a two stage revision process was adopted:
1. Streamline the BM program
(CMU Conference 2015, 2016, 2017)
2. Replace the DCPMA and the CM* with the Associate in Arts
(Music) (UP Diliman Arts Cluster 2017 Conference)

*From AY 1995-1998, Graduation Rate for Certificate Courses are as follows:


CAL: 7% graduated
FA: 11.11% graduated
CHK: 26.85% graduated
MUSIC: 1.78% graduated
I. Introduction (rationale, background information on the AA program)

• conceived as a two-year pre-Baccalaureate program.
• aligned with Level 5 of the Philippine Qualification Framework (PQF)
• a minimum total of 72 units for the AA program, with 12 units of GE
• approved as an academic program by the UP Board of Regents in its
1341st Meeting held on 4 February 2019.
• The Associate in Arts (Music) is a 2-year degree program that is aligned
with other Associate in Arts programs in Diliman (i.e., theatre, fine arts,
sports).

AA
• It is an internationally recognized Pre-baccalaureate title.
• AA (Music) graduates are expected to be skilled enough to work in the
creative industries as performers or production assistants, in
education as teacher’s aides or administrative staff, and similar
professions.
• AA (Music) is intended to be part of a ladderized program for students
leading to the Bachelor of Music (BM) program.
II. Admissions (who are qualified)

Applicants to the AA (Music) program are not required to pass the


UPCAT for admission. However, they are required to pass the college
entrance examinations composed of the music theory test, talent
audition, and interview.

Qualified successful applicants admitted in 2018 and 2019 to the


DCPMA program will be migrated as a batch to the AA program by
the OCS and the OUR.
III. Progress: Retention (Maximum Residence Rule) and Shifting
Retention Rules

AA (Music) students should conform to University retention policies.


AA (Music) students are allowed a maximum residency of three (3)
years as per University rules.
AA (Music) students are qualified for Free Tuition for the allowable
residence rules (3 years free tuition).

Transfer/Shifting

AA (Music) students can transfer or shift to another AA Program only


if they pass the admission requirements of the latter program.

IV. Graduating from the AA (Music) program

Graduation

A student who has successfully completed all academic and other


requirements prescribed for the AA (Music) program is awarded the
Associate in Arts (Music) degree by the BOR upon the recommendation of
the faculty of the College of Music. Graduates of the AA (Music) program
may pursue a BM degree in the same discipline as their concentration
provided that they fulfill the entry requirements of the department
concerned. Units credited in the AA (Music) program will be counted once
accepted into the BM Program.
IV. Graduating from the AA (Music) program

Graduation

Graduates of the AA (Music) program may pursue a BM degree in the same


discipline as their concentration provided that they fulfill the entry
requirements of the department concerned. Units credited in the AA
(Music) program will be counted once accepted into the BM Program.
IV. Transition from AA to BM4

* Transition between programs involve a difference of unit credit for MuP (Music
Performance) series from MuP 11 (1 unit) to MuP 11 (3 units). Students admitted
in 2018 in said transition will have to enroll in MuP 11 (3 units) and based on their
performance exam may be accelerated to MuP 31 by the department concerned.
