Safety and Training Officer

Location: Atlanta, GA Divisions: DEPARTMENT OF WATERSHED MANAGEMENT

Description
Salary Range: 40,600 - $50,800

General Description and Classification Standards

The Office of Safety & Security in Watershed Management is seeking a Safety & Training Officer. This individual will
be involved at the Watershed Management facilities in the development and implementation of Health & Safety
programs to maintain compliance with safety regulations, and will conduct audits and training at DWM across the City
of Atlanta. This position will be focused all aspects of environmental, health, & safety including DOT compliance
issues for its fleet of vehicles.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as
exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

Interpretation of Watershed Management Policies & Procedures, City, State, and Federal (OSHA) regulations and
appropriate standards. Data Analytical (Data Base – Business Analysis )

Monitor and audit internal safety programs for compliance and validation.

Develop new programs, procedures and training (Instructor/Coach) to improve and maintain safe working conditions
for DWM.

Work as an ambassador and liaison between DWM and all stakeholders.

Decision Making

Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the
job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

Knowledge of State & Federal safety regulations and standards.

Knowledge of applicable polices, procedures and standards and regulations pertaining to specific duties
and responsibilities of each job.

Good Microsoft Office skills.

Good organizational and planning skills.

Good math skills.


Ability to stay current with changes in policy, methods, equipment needs, budget and departmental
operations.

Ability to assemble information and compile reports and documents.

Ability to interpret and apply regulations and procedures.

Ability to use A/V aids in presentations.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees.

Ability to interact effectively with employees, management, consultants and government


entities.

Have or be willing to obtain professional safety certification (CSP or similar).

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

Five years experience of management/supervisory, construction, safety, industrial hygiene, risk


management, or a related area which includes three (3) years of safety training or safety
investigation or a closely related area.

OR

Associate's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Worker's,


Business/Public Administration, Construction, Education or a related field and three years
experience in safety training or safety investigation or a closely related area.

Preferred Experience

Safety Experience must be in Both Construction and General Industry as Certified Occupational Safety
Specialist, CHST, or Field Coordinator and at least OSHA, NSC, or recognized National Training Center
to go with their academic education. Must have Heavy Civil, Commercial, and or plant safety experiences.

Licensures and Certifications

PMP Certification, Certified Safety Professional, Construction


A valid driver's license is required.
Health & Safety Technician Certification, etc. is desirable.
