3.0 General
The Capacitor Voltage Transformer shall supply measured values to protection equipment,
measuring instruments, meters, voltage regulating devices and be used for power line carrier
coupling.
Voltage Transformers shall be suitable for outdoor installation under the service conditions as
described in clause 2.0.
The primary High Voltage terminal at the top of the VT shall be of the bolted type while the neutral
connections shall be effected through terminal strips at the bottom in a weatherproof terminal box
with cable glands for the control cables. The earth terminal shall be located in the same terminal
box.
The quality of design and manufacture process shall be assured in accordance with the ISO 9000
series standards. ISO certificate shall be furnished with the offer.
v
Appendix V
Capacitor Voltage Divider (CVD) shall be designed, to equalize the internal pressure at different
temperatures. The unit shall be sealed by high quality O-rings. The capacitor section shall be oil
immersed using Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) free synthetic oil. Volume changes of the oil
shall be compensated for by means of a suitable expansion system. A positive internal pressure
shall be maintained over the specified temperature range.
The capacitance ratio of CVD shall not vary with temperature. The CVD shall have low dielectric
losses, resulting in a low internal temperature rise and a longer service life.
The CVD shall be consisting of one or two brown glaze porcelain with alternating or uniform
sheds. Porcelain shall be high quality homogenous and not porous in order to withstand humidity.
Porcelain shall be with creepage distance ≥ 25mm/ kV.
The CVT shall be equipped with power line carrier (PLC) coupling device and the CVD shall be
suitable for mounting of a line trap on top of the cover in the conventional way. The effective
capacitance for PLC application shall be indicated in Annex I & II respectively.
The Intermediate Voltage Transformer (VT), the compensating reactor and the damping device
shall be housed in a hermetically sealed metal tank filled with oil. The expansion space at the top
of the tank shall be preferably filled with nitrogen. Oil-immersed type shall be equipped
with an oil level indicator and provided with oil sampling, oil filling and oil draining plugs.
The Intermediate Voltage Transformer shall be designed for ratio correction at site. The terminals
for ratio adjustment shall be housed inside a protective cover.
The voltage transformer shall be designed such as to avoid Ferro-resonance under all possible
modes of operation. A passive device shall achieve Ferro-resonance damping. Electronic devices
are not acceptable. In addition, tertiary winding to connect resistors and a relay in a form of open
delta to damp out Ferro-resonance in three-phase system shall be also available.
The voltage Transformer shall have two secondary windings of 200VA each. One core shall be
suitable for metering having an accuracy of 0.5 percent. The other core shall be for metering or
protection having an accuracy 0.5/3P.
The secondary windings shall be connected through a protective switch (MCB) having at least one
N/O auxiliary contact per MCB to provide for alarm indication and necessary signaling to
protection and synchronizing equipment. The MCB shall be located in the terminal box.
The voltage Transformer ground connection shall be earthed through a link, which shall be
removable for insulation testing.
Rated primary voltage of voltage transformer shall be equal to the normal system voltage. The
insulation rating of the VT shall allow, at the site conditions, a 20% continuous overloading
referred to normal rating of the VT.
The secondary voltage shall be 110V/√3. All the CVTs shall have an output rating adequate to cope
with the burdens connected to them.
vi
Appendix V
Secondary winding insulation and the insulation between secondary sections shall withstand a rated
power frequency short duration withstand voltage of 3kV r.m.s. For 1 min.
The CVT shall be provided lifting lugs and external earthing clamp for 150mm² copper conductor.
The CVT shall be suitable for mounting on steel structures. The dimensional drawings of the
mounting arrangement of CVT and High voltage terminal shall be submitted with the offer.
Existing dimension of the mounting arrangement and the dimensions of high voltage terminal are
attached.
The metal tank shall be made of corrosive resistance die cast aluminum material or hot dip
galvanized steel. Static seals shall be designed to prevent leakage of oil or ingress of moisture
throughout the service life. The materials of the seals of secondary terminal bushings shall
withstand all climatic and operational changes and prevent leakage of insulation medium. Designs
shall permit rapid replacement of seals of secondary bushings.
4.0 Experience.
5.0 Testing
Type test reports according to IEC 358 clause 6.2 of similar CVT shall be forwarded with the offer.
The type test certification shall be from recognized independent international organization.
Inspection and testing programs of CVT shall be forwarded three months in advance. Inspection of
CVT and routine test shall be carried out in the presence of engineers from the client just before
delivery from the factory for each CVT as per IEC and shall be forwarded for approval. Ratio
measurement test shall be repeated after the routine test.
Apart from the routine tests mentioned in IEC 186 and IEC 358, the following tests shall be
carried out during the factory inspection.
The terminal box shall be mounted onto the transformer tank. It shall contain secondary terminal,
MCB, and testing terminal for damping circuit. Terminal for ratio adjustment shall be located
underneath of a protective cover. Low voltage terminal of CVD shall be accessible in the terminal
box. This terminal shall be marked ‘L’. The protection class of the terminal box shall be IP54 or
better.
All the rated data including the capacitor values C1, C2, Cequilnt, intermediate voltage and electrical
diagram for the complete CVT shall be given on the main rating plate. The damping circuit
components and the type of the insulation oil shall be indicated on the rating plate. The rating plate
shall be made of stainless steel and attached to the transformer tank.
