I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

The rise of reported bullying cases in the Philippines is fast increasing in

number. Bullying cases is extensive, however, schools should at hand

should help alleviate the effects and reduce the incidence of bullying, and

should conform with the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Anti-

bullying law of 2013 to address the root causes of bullying.

Knowing that mistreatment actions can befall in any peer group situation

is an imperative place to start raising awareness. Teachers should

persistently help parents in raising awareness against bullying.

Bullying is commonly defined as the longstanding physical or

psychological abuse of a student who is unable to defend himself by either

an individual or group of other students. Most researchers estimate that

between 14 and 20% of students in schools will experience bullying at least

once during their academic career (Elinoff, Chafouleas & Sassu, 2004).

Outcomes for both bullies and their victims are bleak; victims of bullying are

more likely than non-victims to report physical and mental health problems,

including psychosomatic complaints, and contemplate suicide. Bullies

themselves are more likely to drop out of school, spend some amount of

time in prison, and become abusive spouses (Elinoff, Chafouleas & Sassu,

2004).

life- long learners.

Bullying has been documented as a vital risk factor for mental health. An

increasing number of researchers have reinvigorated parents to work

collaboratively with schools to avoid and intercede in bullying situations.

Smith (2016) Bullying is a premeditated and belligerent actions that is

frequently done by one or several individuals against someone incapable to

protect him/herself. Bullying can be verbal and can include social-relational

violence. Other more recent forms of bullying attacks are made using the

internet and information–communication technologies (ICT), known as

cyberbullying.

Given these risks, it is essential to build operative intervention and

prevention efforts to work with and attend to victimized students. Parents

should be stimulated to work collaboratively with schools to intervene and

prevent bullying by increasingly more researchers (Rigby 2017; Zych et al.

2017). Therefore, it is necessary to know parents’ perceptions of bullying

and how they respond to bullying victimization.

Therefore, parents play a central character in prevailing and stopping

bullying situations. Previous research has shown that parents’

receptiveness to a child’s ill-treatment is related to the child’s ability to cope

with bullying (Lester et al. 2017). Nevertheless, parents are not normally

aware of the child’s victimization, because children are quite often reluctant

to reveal anything to their parents about their bullying experiences (Bjereld

et al. 2017).

Parents need to be attentive of their children's conduct, presence, and

temperament, both for signs of the child being bullied or engaging in bullying

behavior. Torn clothes, bruises, loss of appetite, mood changes, reluctance

to go to school are all signs that something is wrong. These are all signs

that a child is probably being bullied. Many children fall deeper and deeper

into depression as a result of long-term bullying. Signs that a child is

engaging in bullying behavior might be impulsiveness, showing no empathy

for others, or a desire to be in control. Children who bully are often arrogant

and boastful winners and poor losers when they engage in different activities

in school and even in the outside activities.

II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This research seeks to determine the relationship between parents’

awareness of bullying as experienced by children in school.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What are the root causes of bullying among children in school?

2. What is the extent of the parents’ influence in helping teachers to

resolve bullying cases in school?

3. What is the significant relationship between the assessment of

teachers in parents’ participation on anti-bullying awareness in

school?

4. What recommendation do teachers can give based on the proposed

study towards promoting parents’ awareness on bullying?

III. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION, AND STRATEGY

The significance of this study is to cultivate and promote awareness

among parents against bullying as experienced by the students within the

school premises.

From the time children learn to talk, parents can have a successively

discussion with them about how their day went. This makes it usual to linger

the custom after the child starts to school. Ask questions about their days. Ask

about their friends. Get to know their classmates and friends. Volunteer your

services to the classroom whenever possible.

Likewise, this research will serve as guiding tool in helping children to

promote positive discipline on how to eliminate bullying among their peers in

school. Parents would have an opportunity to understand the importance of

raising awareness against bullying experienced most of the children in school.

Also, this will serve as an indicator to parents to address a problem or

any other concern with school personnel should learn how to approach an

administrator, classroom teacher, or other school staff. Further, parents who

engage the importance of raising awareness against bullying would fully

understand the ways on how to help teachers in school to at least lessen or

exterminate bullying as experienced by children in school.

Self-examination would be a wise course for a parent whose child has

been accused of bullying behavior or being bullied in school.

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

This section presents the research methodology the researchers incline

to employ. It also describes the research design, sampling procedure, collection

of data, treatment of data and the statistical design for the study.

The researchers will use survey method research, wherein participants

answer questions will be administered through interviews or

questionnaires. After participants answer the questions, researchers describe

the responses given. For the survey to be both reliable and valid it is important

that the questions will be constructed properly. Questions should be written so

they are clear and easy to comprehend.

Another consideration when designing questions is whether to include

open-ended, closed-ended, partially open-ended, or rating-scale questions (for

a detailed discussion refer to Jackson, 2009).

Likewise, the research design will employ in the study will give a wide

view of the of the importance of parents’ awareness on bullying experienced by

most of the children in school

This study will be accomplished over six months from September 2019

to December 2019. The data collection period is between October and

November 2019 to find out the significance and influence of raising awareness

Data Gathering Methods

The following methods were used by the researchers to gather needed

data needed to carry out this study:

Sampling Technique

A purposive sampling method will be used in this study. In this design,

all the available parent-respondents of Kalayaan Elementary School will be

utilized to make the result of the study valid and reliable. This will be conducted

to guarantee the weight and reliability of the data.

Instruments of the Research

The researcher makes use of these strategies to gather, accumulate and

calculate the needed data to achieve this study:

Questionnaire

This served as the prime basis of data gathering which enclose

questions that respond the research questions. The subject or respondents

answered the questions by shading their responses to what was asked in the

questionnaire. Some were enclosed with options that elucidate the participants’

insight and attitude.

Focused Group Discussion

A focus group discussion (FGD) will also be used to collect information

based on their background or knowledge to argue with the explicit or definite

problem in this study. Each respondent will be directed by the researchers to

enlighten and address the topic for discussion.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The results, tables, and interpretations indicated and elucidated on the

data collected substantiated the outcome of this study.

The researchers will statistically gather, tally, and examine the data for

final interpretation and analysis. The respondents’ answers to the

questionnaires will be tallied in conformity with the scale of classifications.
