Cumulative Patch V10 CP1

for Aspen HYSYS

Product and Version

This patch should be applied to the following products:
• Aspen HYSYS V10

Other Patch Requirements

None.

Problems Fixed
ID# Description
In HYSYS V10, when switching between separate tabs for parent
flowsheets and sub-flowsheets in HYSYS, object font sizes sometimes
21760 spontaneously changed. In HYSYS V10 CP1, this issue is fixed.
In HYSYS V10, when returning to the parent flowsheet from a sub-
flowsheet, the Object Palette was sometimes sized improperly. In HYSYS
24217 V10 CP1, this issue is fixed.
When the default File Path for Cases was edited using the Simulation
Options view (accessed by clicking File | Options), the default location
to save case files was not updated to reflect these changes. In HYSYS
20378 V10 CP1, the user-defined paths are used.
If you pasted a sub-flowsheet and repeatedly clicked Enter
Subflowsheet (from the Flowsheet/Modify ribbon tab | Hierarchy
159218 group), HYSYS failed.
In HYSYS V10, importing a template containing user properties
162880 sometimes caused HYSYS to fail. This issue is fixed in HYSYS V10 CP1.
In some cases, running the Data Fit Utility mistakenly changed model
24169 inputs. This issue is fixed in HYSYS V10 CP1.
When converting your case to use an Acid Gas property package rather
than a DBR Amines property package, if you cleared the Delete check
box on the Removing Cutter dialog box that appeared, HYSYS
159220 sometimes failed.

ID# Description
When using an Aspen Properties property package, if:
• An assay was attached to a stream that was active in flowsheet
calculations.
-and-
• The column used the column pump around return temperature or
pump around delta T specifications rather than the pump around
duty specification.
Then the column internal results (such as reflux rate) would be
45411 incorrect.
Within the Column environment, if the Column was not yet specified,
selecting the Performance tab of an attached Condenser caused HYSYS
121329 to fail, since the Condenser plot data variables were not initialized.
In cases where the Use sizing methods to calculate Delta P check
box was selected on the Design tab | Parameters page of the Valve
and the outlet conditions were specified, after the inlet conditions were
calculated, the phase conditions of the outlet were overwritten by the
conditions of the inlet. Only the phase-specific conditions reported on
the outlet stream’s Worksheet tab | Conditions page in the Vapour
Phase, Liquid Phase, and Aqueous Phase columns were affected,
and the overall phase conditions of the outlet were correct despite the
113182 defect.
In HYSYS V10 CP1, the interpolation of the Pump curve was improved,
159223 resulting in more consistent behavior.
In HYSYS V10, the backup line of the Compressor Surge Controller was
incorrectly calculated as a percentage above the stonewall line. In
HYSYS V9 and previous releases, the backup line was correctly
calculated as a percentage below the surge line. HYSYS V10 CP1 uses
156585 the correct calculation method from HYSYS V9.
In HYSYS V10, the Update while Integrating option for the
calculation of the heat transfer coefficient for the Pipe Segment in
Dynamics mode incorrectly assumed free convection and used the
Churchill and Chu correlation. In HYSYS V10 CP1, it was corrected and
121600 now uses the Dittus-Boelter Correlation for forced convection.
When building a list of Pipe Segments in HYSYS Dynamics, if streams
were connected but not fully specified, HYSYS used these incomplete
specifications. As a result, the dynamic simulation was not properly
159215 initialized.
24251,
21793, If you opened a case in Dynamics mode and added a new pipe object,
65156, and then attempted to save the case without returning to Steady State
162013 mode, HYSYS experienced issues.
When starting the Integrator in a HYSYS Dynamics case that was
launched via automation, the following dialog box sometimes appeared:
The dynamics assistant identified items which need attention.
Would you like to resolve these first and not run the dynamics?
This dialog box could potentially cause issues when HYSYS was launched
as an invisible application.
In HYSYS V10 CP1, when you start the Integrator in a HYSYS Dynamics
case that was launched via automation, this dialog box no longer
156395 appears.

ID# Description
In some cases, Actions in the Event Scheduler did not have their status
48710 set correctly, which prevented the event from running.
In HYSYS V10, the HYSYS | PID Positional algorithm used the steady
state version of the tracking equation:

In HYSYS V10 CP1, the HYSYS | PID Positional algorithm now uses
the same equation to track the selected output in a selector block as the
equation used for the velocity algorithm:

Using this equation helps the PID to better track the selected output
when the PID output entering the selector block has Unselected status.
This change could possibly affect the results of an existing PID when all
of the following conditions apply:
• The HYSYS | PID Positional algorithm is selected.
• The PID is connected to a selector block.
• The selector block has Unselected status.
-and-
• The Selector mode is set to Minimum, Maximum, Median, or
21659 Hand Sel.
In HYSYS V10, for the Transfer Function, the value of the Cold Init OP
was ignored, and the output always started from zero.
In HYSYS V10 CP1, the cold initialization of the Transfer Function is
fixed. Note that the Cold Init OP does not apply to the Delay, Lead1,
and Lead2 transfer functions.
This change could possibly affect the dynamic response in some
instances. There will be no effect if any of the following conditions
apply:
• The case has already been initialized and run in Dynamics mode.
• Only the Delay, Lead1, and/or Lead2 transfer functions are selected.
-or-
156528 • The Cold Init OP value is empty or zero.

ID# Description
The following improvements were made to the LNG Exchanger in HYSYS
V10 CP1:
• A new Transfer UA to Simple Model button on the EDR PlateFin
tab of the LNG Exchanger lets you transfer the EDR calculated
pressure drops to a Simple Weighted model and set up the UA
specifications for each of the pass UAs and the overall UA.
• If you switch from the EDR - PlateFin model to another model,
HYSYS stores the stream mapping and geometry information. If you
later switch back to the EDR - PlateFin model, your previous
stream mapping and geometry information will be restored.
• When the PlateFin geometry is imported from an EDR file to the
LNG, the EDR streams are automatically mapped to the LNG passes
if the EDR stream names match the LNG pass names in HYSYS
• When the EDR - PlateFin model is selected, if the temperature of
one of the HYSYS streams disagrees with the corresponding
temperature calculated in EDR by a margin of more than 1 °C, a
45346 warning message appears.
In HYSYS V10, Rigorous Shell&Tube Exchangers with the Find Fouling
calculation option selected experienced the following issues:
• Rigorous Shell&Tube Exchangers always re-solved when the case
was opened.
• Some of the outlet streams of Rigorous Shell&Tube Exchangers
failed to flash and fully solve even when adequate information was
provided.
49212 These issues are fixed in HYSYS V10 CP1.
In localized versions of HYSYS with Economics turned on, the
hyperlinks on the Equipment tab of the Economic Equipment Data
68880 Summary form were broken.
For Activated Economics, if you cleared the Include for Costing check
box for a unit operation and then selected the check box, the
Equipment tab of the Economic Equipment Data Summary form did
68350 not display the correct results.
In some cases, after clearing the Include for Costing check box for a
68672 unit operation and then turning on Activated Economics, HYSYS failed.
For Activated Economics, the Model Summary Grid calculated an
217805 incorrect Cost Rate for streams.
When using the Datasheets feature in HYSYS V10, in some cases,
packing and tray hydraulic data was not transferred to Aspen Basic
67717 Engineering or transferred incorrectly.
In some instances, accessing HTFS RN, Process Manuals, or Aspen Basic
Engineering within HYSYS caused the screen to flicker. This defect is
48509 fixed in HYSYS V10 CP1.
You must install both Aspen OnLine V10 CP1 and HYSYS V10 CP1 for the
following Aspen OnLine enhancement:
For HYSYS models containing at least one HYSYS Petroleum Refining
reactor, you can select the reactor model as the Object to solve in
Aspen OnLine. Values from the Aspen OnLine input tags are used to
update relevant variables for this reactor. After the calibration run is
101252 performed and tuning factors are saved, the results are reflected in the

4
Aspen Technology, Inc.

ID# Description
Aspen OnLine output tags, which you can optionally export to a
historian.
This enhancement facilitates the integration between calibration models
and simulation/optimization models.
In some cases, for features supported by the perturbation model in
Equation Oriented mode, HYSYS components were mapped to
155666 incorrect EO component names. As a result, the case failed to converge.
Due to issues regarding the expiration of the digital signature for
Microsoft Access infrastructure on April 19, 2017, customers without a
full installation of Access and administrative control of their machine
were unable to use the Documentation Builder in the Safety Analysis
environment. To fix this issue, an updated digital signature was added in
45303 HYSYS V10 CP1.
When performing line sizing calculations in the Safety Analysis
environment, in some cases, the reported Calculated Equivalent
20397 Length was too short.
In the Safety Analysis environment, the Steam Relieving Phase –
Method used the relief pressure (rather than the set pressure) to obtain
the Superheat Correction (Ksh) value. This resulted in a larger Ksh
49169 than would be expected based on the table in API 521.
In some cases, in the Safety Analysis environment, the calculated mass
121231 flow rate for PSVs was lower than expected.
In the Safety Analysis environment, for Control Valve Failure
scenarios, vapor choking was not calculated correctly for the Universal
218009 Gas Sizing calculation method.
When the Discharge Coefficient (Kd) value was user-specified, rating
calculations used the default coefficient for additional PRDs added prior
to the value change rather than the user-specified coefficient. In HYSYS
V10 CP1, the Discharge Coefficient (Kd) applies to additional PRDs
122076 added before the coefficient is changed.
For the Depressuring Utility, when the following conditions were met:
• Fire Stefan Boltzmann was selected from the Operating Mode
drop-down list.
• Detailed was selected from the Heat Transfer Model drop-down
list.
• Continually Updated was selected from the U Selection drop-
down list.
• The C value was specified for Air – Outside.
Then the Historical Data view displayed the default value for Air –
116147 Outside rather than the user-defined value.
On the Results Summary tab | Major Findings page of the
BLOWDOWN Analysis, for pipes in the discharge system with insulation
layers inside of the metal wall, minimum temperatures of the innermost
insulation layer were used to report the Min Wall Temp instead of the
metal temperatures. As a result, incorrect warning messages appeared,
stating that the minimum wall temperature was below the minimum
119563 design temperature.

ID# Description
In HYSYS V10, when using the Pipeline Pressurization BLOWDOWN
template, if the initial inventory flash calculated all liquid, the
BLOWDOWN Analysis was unable to run. The model at the orifice used
HEM for gas or two-phase flow and used a flashing flow algorithm for
liquid.
20399 In HYSYS V10 CP1, HEM is always used, so this issue is fixed.
When copying and pasting a sub-flowsheet containing BLOWDOWN unit
operations, saving the case without re-running the copied BLOWDOWN
155750 operations caused HYSYS to fail.
For BLOWDOWN, when using an API Fire (Apply to liquid) heat flux
method on a Vessel or Pipe without pressure drop, if nine or more
vessels/pipes without pressure drop existed upstream of the unit
operation (including branching), the fire was mistakenly applied to the
116176 subsequent unit operation instead of the selected unit operation.
In HYSYS V10, some BLOWDOWN Analysis results differed significantly
from the results in HYSYS V9:
• In some instances, the liquid height results were higher in V10.
• In some instances, the peak flow vapor temperature was warmer
154546 than the initial starting temperature for vapor in V10.
For assays that were manually defined with Single Stream properties in
HYSYS V10, when the Show input data check box (from the Format
ribbon tab | Plot group) was selected for an assay distillation plot, the
24072 plot did not display the associated input data.
For cases using an Aspen Properties property package, when assays
were characterized, HYSYS did not properly re-estimate physical
48567 constants.
When attempting to characterize a backblending assay, if the Cut Yields
basis for the light streams did not match the basis for the heavy
130893 streams, HYSYS sometimes failed.
In the FCC Calibration environment, deleting all available data sets
24229 sometimes caused HYSYS to fail.
After deleting an FCC data set with the solver on hold, HYSYS
49965 sometimes failed.
For the FCC Feed Adjust, when returning to the Simulation environment
after saving the case in the Calibration environment, consistency errors
160666 sometimes occurred.
HYSYS V10 CP1 includes an enhancement that lets you attach and
model torch oil for the FCC using light cycle oil and/or slurry.
In order to use this feature, you must install a special emergency patch
87050 for the FCC. If you are interested, please contact AspenTech Support.
In some cases, inaccurate property values were provided for
components of streams exiting the Alkylation Unit due to rounding
errors.
In HYSYS V10 CP1, properties are only set for components of streams
103573 exiting the Alkylation Unit if the composition is significant.
In some instances, the Reaction Activities for the Alkylation Unit
changed after each calibration run. HYSYS V10 CP1 does not reset
159216, kinetic parameters immediately after a calibration run, which allows for
128550 consistent results if the calibration is re-run.

Aspen Technology, Inc.

ID# Description
For Hydrocrackers that only included hydrotreater beds, clicking Push
Data to Simulation in the Calibration environment did not correctly
push the results to the Simulation environment. In HYSYS V10 CP1, the
kinetic factors for the various activity classes are now properly applied,
116173 and this issue is resolved.
When using the Excel Front End for the FCC, Hydrocracker, or Catalytic
Reformer, Aspen Simulation Workbook did not allow you to switch from
the Simulation environment to the Calibration environment or from the
159217 Calibration environment to the Simulation environment.
When adding a Catalytic Reformer in HYSYS V10, the reactor inlet
pressure, compressor discharge pressure, and suction pressure could
159222 not be specified in the Calibration environment.
For the Petroleum Shift Reactor, attempting to shift only the viscosity
159219 caused HYSYS to fail.
In instances where the Adjusted object for an Adjust operation was
deleted and that Adjust operation was managed by the Simultaneous
Adjust Manager, HYSYS sometimes failed when the Simultaneous Adjust
155060 solver ran.
In certain cases, when moving objects into sub-flowsheets or importing
159214 templates into sub-flowsheets, HYSYS failed.
HYSYS V10 did not property save SCD factors for the Refining Short-Cut
Column. As a result, certain factors reset to their default values when
159221 the associated case was re-opened.
In some cases, cutting and pasting a flowsheet containing a Delayed
141509 Coker caused HYSYS to fail.
After clicking File | New | Hydrocracker to create a new hydrocracker
and completing the HCR Configuration Wizard, selecting the Transition
Data | Property Bias page of the default calibration factor set
194049 sometimes caused HYSYS to fail.
In HYSYS V10, the new Refining Short-Cut Column was significantly
slower than the previous Petroleum Distillation Column. In HYSYS V10
CP1, the speed of the Refining Short-Cut Column was improved
221370 substantially.
In HYSYS V10, when importing/exporting an FCC or Hydrocracker factor
set into/from either:
• An FCC or Hydrocracker without a fractionator
-or-
• An FCC or Hydrocracker containing a fractionator with fewer than six
cuts,
221008 Then HYSYS failed.
