RUNNING HEAD: PRAXIS CORE ANALYSIS

Exam Requirements

The Praxis Core exam is something required when trying to become a licensed teacher

here in Nevada. Thankfully, after meeting with a Nevada State College transfer advisor, I learned

that I do not have to pass the exam before being admitted into their education program. The

passing scores here in Nevada are the following: Reading 156, Writing 162, and Mathematics

150.

Exam Preparation

My focus and dedication for prepping to take this practice Praxis weren’t at its full potential. I

could have given it more time and attention because I felt very unprepared. If I am honest, I

didn’t do much to prep other than skimming through some of the practice math problems, which

was the area I thought would be the hardest. I neglected or underestimated the difficulty of the

Writing and Reading portion and I look forward to assigning more prep time to it, to feel ready

for the next time I test. I have learned from my mistake and lack of dedication, and I look

forward to preparing for the actual exam at a deeper level.

Exam Results

My scores are a representation of my lack of preparation. For my Writing score, I score in

the 45% range, meaning I have a long way to go before I have a chance of passing the official

exam. I also scored 45% in my Math portion. I realized that there is a lot I need to re-review

because I know there are concepts, I know but lack memory of it completely. My worst score

was for reading. I scored a sad 13% but can admit that my lack of time management displays

with that score. My scores display the need for significant improvement and preparation. I

believe that with more hours of review I will be able to improve my scores drastically.

Future Exam Preparation

My preparation for the official Praxis Core exam is going to be with more dedication than

what I did for the practice Praxis. The four-year college I will be attending, Nevada State

College, allows students to transfer into the education program before passing the exam offering

one-credit classes that help you prep. I intend to take those classes to ensure that I am beyond

ready for my official exam. Aside from taking those classes, I will be reviewing at home through

different prep sources such as the free Praxis Prep site provided, Khan Academy, any other

sources I find. I strongly believe, the more the merrier. My goal is to walk into the testing room

confident that I prepared enough to conquer the exam.
